Hi can anyone help I have just had cambelt and water pump changed on my 1.9tddi 150bhp mk2 and when picked it up the traction control light is on.

Take it back to the garage if it wasn't wrong before.  I would guess they have damaged or not reconnected some wiring.

Wasn't done at garage it was my local mechanic
Who did same job for me last year (yes I
Do 60k a year)

then give him a call and tell him theres a problem.
if hes a decent guy he will investigate,if he is honest he will tell you the truth on what he finds.

There isnt anything in that area that would cause an ESP fault that I can think of, some places do disconnect the battery when they do the job which can cause the ESP system to loose the steerimg wheels position amd throw a fault. Ideally, have the car scanned to see what the fault code is.

Hi all Ive been to see mechanic and he has removed airfilter box (which is what he removed for access to the belt) to make sure nothing trapped or damaged underneath and nothing, He diddnt disconnect battery either. so plugged it into computer and it read....01435 brake pressure sensor 1 circuit faulty.  can any1 shed any light on this as I realy dont want to go to my local ford dealer as had big problems with them in the past! Thanks. >

now spoken to ford who told me the brake pressure sensor is part of abs pump, they then quoted me Ã,£1195 +avt for a pump and then fitting. mbeen told theres a repair kit but ford dont list one but vw do can anyone  tell me iff the galaxy and sharan pumps are the same?

Have you reset the code? Just wondering if its a lingering code that's been logged for some reason and might reset?

Got a reconditioned pump from poland at fraction of ford price,(identical part number)  had plugged in to clear code and still same, "brake pressure switch 1 circuit fault" had to two other garages to check if mechanic had trapped or damaged anything whilst doing cambelt and both found nothing, It has been suggested to me it could be one of the abs sensors????? been told they could fail on the tc side but still work the abs and not put the abs light on.gonna get expensive if I start just changing parts trial and error.

That's bull, its a simple hall sensor which either creates a signal or doesn't. Since the ABS and ESP system use the same signal it can't have that effect. Are you using VCDS or a regular fault code reader as that code is a little ambiguous, if its VCDS what's the pre-code number?

There are two brake pedal detection switches, could it be one of those isn't working properly?

Thanks for your reply mirez, Its Halfords autocentre's code reader it has been read with.

Ahhh.... in which case I suspect its reading the engines ECU and not the ABS controller. You should have it scanned with VCDS as it can interrogate the VW controllers individually.

Ok thanks, have you any idea where in north yorks where can get the codes read with a suitable code reader? alternatively where can I purchase one and which one would be best to invest in thanks.

If you have laptop you can use one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAG-GROUP-USB-COM-PORT-OBD2-II-KKL-ECU-DIAGNOSTIC-CABLE-LEAD-WORK-VCDS-LITE-409-/271036790042?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item3f1b0d351a

You do not need to register the free software to check for fault codes.

With VCDS lite (full version) need a code clearing or want to scan for faults in the north kent area, PM me. All for a pint of Strongbow.

Thanks chris bought it, wel see what that comes up with when arrives,

Hi all I have had code read again and it reads 01435 sensor1 brake pressure G201 electrical problem in circuit. at first I was told it needs abs pump, fitted recon unit from ABS WORLD in Poland, then told by VW master tech after he read codes to replace sensor on end of brake master cylinder, running out of options i have a new brake pedal switch coming tomorrow but not holding my breath as brake lights and cruise control still working and all use same switch. scratching my head that much I'm gonna go bald. any more suggestions PLEASE?????

Seems to be a semi-frequent fault of the ABS module in other vehicles. As with all faults look at them logically and it should be fairly easy to diagnose. So what have you replaced so far? I couldn't work out if you had or hadn't replaced the master cylinder?
Did you change just the ABS pump or the controller as well? When you replaced it did you then bleed the system (including the electronic bleed of the ABS system?) and, if you replaced it as a lump, have you calibrated the new sensor yet?

Using VCDS you should be able to see what G201 is reporting. Open the ABS controller, measuring blocks and then Group 005. Field 1 gives the value which has to be between -8.0 and +8.0 bar.

QuoteFault Description:
Brake Pressure Sensor 1 (G201) - Electrical Fault in Circuit

Possible Cause:
Brake Pedal Switch (F) faulty/jammed.
Brake Pressure Sensor 1 (G201) faulty.

Diagnosing:
See Measuring Blocks.

Possible Solutions:
Perform Brake Pump Bleeding.
Check/Replace Brake Pedal Switch (F).
Check/Replace Brake Pressure Sensor 1 (G201).
Replace ABS Hydraulic Unit (N55).
Perform Brake Pressure Sensor 1 (G201) Basic Setting.
Replace Brake Electronics Control Module (J104).

Hi Mirez, I replaced the pump and the controller and bled the system (not done electronic bleed) I havent replaced the master cylinder but replaced the sensor that screws into it. Now have vcds lite on my laptop and tried the procedure you sent me, 03 brakes, measuring blocks grp005 field 1 read 193.48 bar couldnt go any further it says i need to register the software which I am about to do.

I got two fault codes this time, the usual  01435 sensor1 brake pressure G201 elec fault in circuit  and   01673potentiometer for diaphragm position in brake booster 012 elec fault in circuit intermittant. altho it did let me clear the second code.

193 bar??? Something sounds wrong there as that's nearly 3000psi! Can you double check that?

Interesting second fault, I'm beginning to wonder if you have a wiring issue instead of a sensor fault.

I did check it twice, will check again
Tomorrow as at work now. If it's looking
Like wiring fault am I back to a broken
Or damaged wire as this light was on
When I got it back after cambelt n
Water pump change?

Potentialy yes,  I'm not that familar with the wiring route from the brake servo to the ABS pump but I think it just runs across the back of the engine bay

ok thanks Mirez, I think will still try reset the sensor first then will have to start tracing wires, I have got as far as security access 16 and entered 40168 and get error message "not by controller" I have rechecked the measuring blocks grp 005 and still get wild reading, tried to upload a pic to make sure Im in correct place but cant seem to get it to upload so have text it to you I hope thats ok, thanks again for all efforts.

Hi, I'm sure mine is the MK25.
Sent pic via email cheers

Thank you all for your assistance and advice, Mirez you where right it was a wire,
on the plug that goes to the sensor that screws up to the bottom of the mastercylinder. repaired and light went out, cleared fault codes and this time they stayed clear.  Got esp for the inpending snow. Thanks again.

Awesome news and thanks for closing off the subject :)
