Just bought a 05 1.9 zetec tdi 115, there is no engine cover, is this a problem? where can I get a used one to fit?

cheers in advance

First post, new to forum, looking forward to it!
you bought a fcuking bus for a dog! are you mad

The engine cover and under-shield (check this is present) are frequently not refitted by lazy garages so its not a huge surprise to find one or both missing. Have a look for four "prongs" sticking up from the engine - the cover pushes on to these. Providing they are all in place then you can get a replacement cover either a scrappy or ebay to fit. The 115 has an all black cover, the 130/150 have a silver/black one but all will fit :)

did you buy it from a dealer?
iirc you have 28 days from sale to notify the garage you bought it from about any defects on the car,AND they are obliged to rectify without cost to you.

Does anybody know more about the ââ,¬Å"under coverââ,¬Â for the engine
I drive a Seat Alhambra 1.9Tdi which has 115bhp and an automatic gearbox.

I am happy to help you with all your questions. I am not a qualified mechanic but seem to be better at fixing my car than even the most experienced garages.

I have lots of friends here and very much enjoy talking with you all. Always remember, a motor car is a serious tool and should be treated with respect. Put your safety first, always.

I changed the oil recently which reminded me mine doesnt have an under cover
Not aware of any ill effects, am I missing something important?

Itââ,¬â,,¢s main purpose is for eu noise emissions regulation, on Alfa Romeo 159 which suffer subframe corrosion due to it they get binned with no ill effects. Makes servicing far easier and spotting oil leaks before they get too bad.

Thank you very much, that is good to know

Others have said the power steering pump belt can slip if it gets wet from water splashing up onto it if its raining, though can't say i've noticed it happening.

Its a large plastic box with some sound damping inside, attached with 2 nuts and 4 bolts. There isn't really much else to say about it.

Driving through heavy rain at speed is not good also debris could be thrown up into the running belt with consequences, have always replaced the cover even though it is a pain.

I once drove over a stone which got into the fan belt and it flew up into the intercooler pipe and caused it to burst open
