ABS Warning Light

The ABS warning light is stuck on in our number 2 Galaxy, a 52 plate 2.3 Petrol Zetec. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get VCDS-Lite working on my laptop since I upgraded to Windows 7 in spite of trying all sorts of different drivers. I've got two different ODB-II cables and neither will work. VCDS-lite seems to detect the cable OK but reports no response from any of the controllers. Any suggestions?

I resorted to testing the ABS sensors with a meter and unfortunately, all four sensors are showing a resistance of 1078 ohms when measured at the connector from the sensor so it doesn't look like a sensor problem. My next thought was to check the wiring but I haven't been able to find where the wires terminate into the ABS ECU. Can anyone tell me where it is located?

After sensor problems, the ring itself (on the driveshaft) is the next most likely thing to have failed.

I've managed to check the front ABS rings and they look OK. The rear ones are difficult to get at to see. Any suggestions on how to get VCDS-Lite working?

Incidentally, I managed to fix a broken bit of an ABS ring on the first Galaxy that I had (a 1997 model) using bits of nail stuck on with Araladite - a botch up that worked until I got rid of it!

Having got VDCS-Lite working thanks to Mirez, very close examination of the front right hand ABS ring revealed that it had indeed got a crack across it and was intermittently slipping. So out with the Araldite.

It's so easy with a working version of VCDS eh! Good work ;)
