Heated Seats Transplant - Anyone done it? 2005 Ghia

Hi.

I'm new to this Forum and only 2 weeks into my first Galaxy ownership.  My "New" baby is a really good one imo but I wish it had heated leather seats, like my old Passat did!  :(

I'm considering buying another Galaxy, just to swap the leather & heated seats.  ::)

Has anyone done this with the heated seats before?  Will my 2005 Tdi Ghia already have the wiring in place?  How much will I have to strip out?  Where do things connect to? Any hints and tips appreciated.

Many thanks

Yup, done it twice. First time I swapped the whole interior, second time I stripped the seat and added the pads.

Pros and Cons for both methods, swapping the interior is by far the easier option but is more expensive.

Wiring wise, you wont have anything in place already. You'll need the switches and relay, plus a good amount of suitablly sized wiring as they draw a good 20amps. Personally, unless you have a lot of experience with car wiring, I'd not even try to integrate it with the cars existing wiring but just wire your own circuit directly.

Wow!  You am de man!

I really need to ask you stuff.  Would you prefer by PM?

I'm wanting to strip wiring, relays and everything needed from the Donor car then.  Are you able to tell me the wire routing, Relay places, wire colours & connections etc etc.  Never tackled this before though I'm a fairly competent DIYer and kerbside mechanic.

You sound just like the sort of chap I need, to hold my hand through the process  ;D  I'm going to look at the prospective donor tomorrow.

Would you mind assisting?

thanks man

Whilst I admire you wanting to have a go it is quite involved would you not have been better getting a car with all the toys on already, as Mark said integrating with the existing wiring can be a nightmare even for experienced DIYer's, good luck with what ever way you decide to do it.

Logic says I should have waited for the "Right one" but when mine came up, 55k miles, 1 owner and mint, I couldn't say no.  It's not an issue to get another car with the leather and to do a swap, it's just the electrics I was wanting some guidance with.  That said, I'll have the 2 cars side-by-side so I can try bit by bit.

I've already got swivel seats with DVD screens due to surgery, so it's not too daunting but it's always good to chat with folks who have been there before.

Thanks though  ;)

I could, but tbh, you'll be much better off obtaining a TIS cd so you can reference everything yourself in real time. They are of course copyrighted so whilst Ebay sell them, you could also download it from torrent sites and cut out at least one pirate in the process.

Thanks for the advice but I'm gonna show my ignorance now . . . . . what's a TIS CD?

I figured I could have the cars side-by-side and strip down and follow the wires bit by bit - is that feasible?

Technical Information System, Fords own system of technical documents and wiring diagrams. Very handy to have ;)

If the cars are of a similar year then should be absolutely fine, but tbh, this sounds like an awful lot of hassle getting a second car! Why not get them from a scrapyard car or new from the kufratec website (look under Sharan)

I'm afraid my budget won't stretch to "Buying" the interior and finding leather with heated is very rare in my experience.  To buy a car and put my perfect, unmarked velour interior in and hopefully sell and get my purchase cost back is my ideal goal.  I dinny mind the graft to get the goal.

I've sourced Ford TIS 2004, so I hope it covers the Galaxy and will tell me what I need to know.

I also have Autodata, a very useful program that my local garage use.  It covers all makes and models with some very interesting stuff.

I am in the process of getting my Seat Alhambra seats wired up in my Ford Galaxy I already have the switches from the same car. I have seen a retro kit from Kufratec would this kit do the job and do they plug straight into my Alhambra seats or do I need them modified in any way. Or would it be better to get the original VW/Seat wiring can they be bought separately from the dealer?

Kufratec in my experience are reasonable, the kit itself is normally well made but they never seem to know much about what they are selling either from a "what it does" or a "how to install" perspective. Post a link to the kit and I'll give you some feedback from what I know you'll need.

Mirez your help would be much appreciated I know you have done this transplant before. Can I just ask how did you wire up set?

https://www.kufatec.co.uk

Well I make and wire my own looms so that's how I did mine. The Kufra loom looks ok, you've basically got some powers, grounds and thermostat wiring - its not difficult stuff but if you havn't done a lot of wiring before then at least their loom should be largely plug and play. Just check its deffo for a Galaxy though as they often claim it fits a 'number' of cars but of course the Galaxy is longer and wider so sometimes the looms are too short!
