Possible drive shaft issue

Well, luck with new car didn't last long.
Came on holiday Saturday and whilst on motorway noticed a wobble/vibration on the passengers side of the car. Car has had wheels balanced and tracked.
Got on holiday and had a look under the car, there is a lot of grease and a split gaitor so assumed a split cv boot. Took it down to garage and he thinks the drive shaft.
Symptoms are vibration/wobble between 38-70 mph however when I back of the accelerator it goes away (car not under load I guess)
Any ideas? Have checked old threads seems drive shaft or cv joint could be the fault.
Mechanic is of the opinion that its not the dmf thankfully.

That sounds pretty much the same as the failed driveshaft on mine. It went in 2011, and I replaced with a set of shafts from jandrcvjoints.co.uk (they are also on Ebay, and a bit cheaper too).

Their driveshafts come with a 2 year warranty, and mine have just failed after 2 years and 1 week - how they build them to such a tight spec is quite impressive

I'll be fitting the replacement shafts on the weekend, using the excellent instructions from Mirez elsewhere on this forum.

Current website price is Ã,£65 for the pair. Last time the garage did the job, I think I was charged for around 2 hours of their time.

Hmmm I bought a set of those too. Haven't fitted them yet but they said they had a 3 year warranty and were much cheaper, its the full set for the drivers side, intermediate one etc....
I'll be fitting them this week so I'll post pics etc to show whats what. My symptoms are a humming noise when turning left, and going over small hills in road, as well as the slipping type feeling when trying to accelerate in 5th/6th gear under load.
Could still be a wheel bearing but I'm ruling out all odds...

Afternoon all,
  Well I had the drive shaft changed whilst we were away, It couldn't wait knocking was getting worse and wallet emptied of Ã,£268. Will be getting around half back from the warranty people though.
Good news is the knocking/wobbling has gone. yaay
Bad news I seem to have developed a slight wobble at low speed, only very slight between the speeds of 10-15 mph and only really in second gear.
I have read that others have had similar symptoms to this, was there a definitive outcome??

I can't comment yet as I'm still trying to change mine. Still haven't been able to get the old one off! As soon as I do, hopefully this week I'll post my outcome, hopefully a successful one!

i have a strange "shimmy" feeling at moderate-high revs under load i have managed to make it happen in all but 6th gear and reverse, its quite a disconcerting feeling but isn't accompanied by any noises or vibration through the steering only the feeling of the whole car shaking/shimmying slightly
is this a symptom of a driveshaft or something else?

Yes you can get that feeling when the joints dry out, check the gaiters for splits.
Road dirt and water can soon knacker a CV joint.
Don't forget to check wheels and tyres, a buckled wheel or a tyre with a lump on it can also give similar.

thanks for the input N/S shaft was completly blown out, i peeled back the boot to check and it rained needle rollers on me replacement sourced from a local factor for a good price and once replaced it drives like a completly different car
