Automatic gearbox not changing

The automatic gearbox on my 2003 TDI galaxy won't change when I first get in. After 5 or 10 mins is changes gear properly and then works with no issues until the next time it's left for a significant time. I've taken it to a automatic gearbox specialist and they ran their computer on it and it reported no faults at all. The mechanic suggested it could be the solenoids but couldn't be certain.

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm stuck in limbo at the moment.

Has the oil been changed? That would be the first port of call regardless of anything else as the box needs good oil to work properly. Oil gets thinner as it warms up so temperature related faults can easily be this.

Failing that you are most likely looking at a sticky N98 :*
