Redex or Millers?

Q. Is using Redex or Millers is a good idea to give the engine a clean out?

The car runs fine, idles smooth and everything seems sound (touches wood)...and its got a full ford service history up until 2010. Its done 130000 miles and due a service.
I use shell diesel most of the time...but expect supermarket fuels were used before at some time.

Any help greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,

There are some that swear by additives and others that have never used them. Personally, I've used a trade version of redex a couple of times and it's never given any trouble - but then it's also arguable if it's ever given a gain!!

I've not heard of many problems as a result of using them though although I'm beginning to suspect they may be more of a placebo then of any real benefit.

Yeah that's what I've read - there's no real proof....all I really want it to do is clean the engine out, to sort of make it a bit more efficient...like defragging a computer.
I'm not in it for a performance increase as the performance at present is excellent.

Just want to make sure it wont do any harm to the engine system.
Kind Regards,

Providing you use the correct dose with a full tank of fuel I can't see you having any problems.

To be honest though, my preference if all's working fine would be to use a couple of tanks of Shell V-Power instead.

Thanks, that's what i was sort of siding towards, I'll go the v-power route - I'm off down the A12 to London today, so will give it a good run.

I just brought a VAG cable, so If at a later date I notice any performance problems I'll chuck half a bottle of redex in and try to get some hard data or something useful to see if it ACTUALLY works.

Thanks for the advice!
