Chaps

I replaced my clutch slave cylinder about 5000- miles ago - say 2 months now. Last night I was driving home when I stopped at lights on a hill. When I tried to move off the car would only select either 4th 5th or 6th gear.   After much burning of clutch etc. I managed to get the car home. When I looked this morning I noticed that one of the gear cables had popped out of it's bracket.  Pain in the bum c but I took off the battery box etc. re fitted the cable - but I appear to have all gears but reverse. I know there is sometimes an issue with the selector bolts but this all appears to be ok.

Any ideas?  I need the car for work tomorrow

Help!!

Hi BJ
If there was no problem up until the point where cable popped off can only think cable might need a slight adjustment.

I tend to agree, there's a good video on setting up the box here:

Bingo!!  It works - I now have a working gearbox.

Thanks for the advice guys.  I was getting worried - it's only done 206k miles and I didn't fancy getting rid of it before it was run in!!

Thanks again.

Can you let me know if it improves your shift experience at all as it's something I was contemplating trying!

Did my usual 100 miles today - no problems apart from the residual smell of burnt clutch plate!.  Gear change seems much as it was before - fine.

I haven't noticed any particular difference at all.

I'll let you know if I do.

Bad news is that's probably a few thousand miles less left on your clutch now :(

I originally replaced the clutch at 138 k so I should have at least 32k to go!!

Seriously provided the car keeps going as it is I will be happy if I can get 250k out of it - 300 would be better but I have had it from new and I am happy that I have had my moneys worth. Of course unless I get a fault that costs thousands I'll just repair and carry on!!

Especially with the help from you guys.
