Well after a recommendation from a friend, I went ahead and bought a remap for the Galaxy. I've done it a different way to most though - simply buy a second fully remapped ECU and swapped it over :)

15 minutes to swap it out with the old one I'm very happy. Its now running at 145bhp which was a noticeable increase and interestingly MPG is already up :) I'll monitor oil temperature for a little while though as there is a noticeable increase. Because I have the Sharan cluster the oil gauge typically sits around 90*c but with the new ECU it runs around 100*c - perfectly happy with that though (the Golf generally runs 100*c to 110*c) but I'll just keep an eye on that for the next week or so.

Ohh and the price? Ã,£95 delivered and of course I've always got the old ECU to refit should I ever want/need to :D

Just a follow up on this, to say things have gone very well. She's been though an MoT and there was no increase in the measured smoke test they do, it still went though as a fast pass :)

The only thing I've had an issue with was the immobiliser - if you started the car immediately then all would be well, but leave the ignition on for 5+ seconds (like you would in winter) and the door LED flashes and the car won't start. A quick email to Lee and he took my old ECU, cloned it to another, remapped that one and then sent it back - it's now perfect so whilst IMMO isn't active in a Galaxy ECU there is clearly some other comms going on!

I still think this is by far the preferential way to do it as you keep your old ECU should you ever wish to revert back and it's DIY when convenient. It's also significantly cheaper then any other remap I've seen out there!!

If anyone else is interested, his details are below!

Hi Mirez
Following this one with interest! Just a couple of questions

Have you or the sjupplier rolling road tested it for power increase or does it just feel better?
Whats the fuel economy like now?
And the kicker for me,,, does having the immobiliser cancelled mean that the pats chip in key(or not lol)  is not used

Looking at a couple of these on ebay but they are dearer than the one in your original post

Cheers dave

Cheers

Hi Dave, its a claimed remap from 115 to 145bhp. Rolling roads are clutch killers so it's not going near one of them! Its noticeable quicker though, both in pull and response, and much more then a placebo type increase you get with so called "tuning boxes" its a real lump of additional power that's been added.

My simple test is this; I quite often convoy with the missus on an A road near here and previously the Galaxy and Golf were very well matched however it will now comfortably pull away from the Golf.

MPG wise its risen although the weather may have something to do with that, today we did 42miles on the M4 and acheived 49.3mpg.

Sorry, I may not have made that clear with the immobiliser. Lee is a VW chap and his normal plan is that they ship the ECU with the immobiliser off and you recode it when its installed to enable it. Unfortunately the Galaxy isn't doing the immobiliser the same way dispite being a VW ecu and engine! By sending him my ECU to clone I've had no change to the mmobiliser as I also wouldnt want it disabled!! Obviously the downside is that the ECU isnt plug and play like it is with the true Vdubs so you'll either have to swap twice, or be without the car for a few days.

Shame about the immobilizer as i couldnt get vag tacho to wirk when i wanted to code a key

Yeah that's the problem. Normally VW car's have the immobiliser built into the instrument cluster and it's synced to the ECU using a pass-code. The Galaxy has a separate immobiliser entirely. The weird part is that the factory ECU's are coded with the immobiliser off as standard - there must be some other coding elsewhere that controls it.

HI  I have tried the phone number for lee but he has moved on.  Does anybody know if he still  remaps ecu's  and a current phone number.
Many thanks.

Hi @Mirez
I would like more power therefore I looking for 145bhp flashfile for Galaxy 115bhp auy Original sw: 0281010629 1037362765

I would like to do this but my wife wonââ,¬â,,¢t let me have the car remapped in case I break the engine  :(
I drive a Seat Alhambra 1.9Tdi which has 115bhp and an automatic gearbox.

I am happy to help you with all your questions. I am not a qualified mechanic but seem to be better at fixing my car than even the most experienced garages.

I have lots of friends here and very much enjoy talking with you all. Always remember, a motor car is a serious tool and should be treated with respect. Put your safety first, always.

7 years and 83k since I had it mapped, no issues to report. Same engine, same clutch, same injectors, same turbo. ;)

So impressive... these lovely cars are so reliable and just go on and on. I would love to change the microchip to make it go faster but I know she wouldnââ,¬â,,¢t allow me to do that, after how long it took me to fix the limp home mode problem I had last year with a sticky actuator arm on a brand new reconditioned turbo (note to self: avoid reconditioned turbo in future). I would be so so pleased with this sort of outcome though, my car has 115bhp which isnââ,¬â,,¢t bad but sometimes I feel like it could benefit from a little more oomph when accelerating on a dual carriageway for example. Also it gets about 36mpg on average.

My mrs used to make comments about me doing stuff to my car but not anymore she has just admitted defeat and leaves me to it. During this working from home I have had my beemer on stands for a large part of it sorting stuff out. Time for a change now and another project so the 3 series will be making way for something else I can tinker with.

I am a fan of remaps when done safely so other bits donââ,¬â,,¢t Fail or prematurely wear out, mine has been mapped to improve performance gets an extra 40hp and torque around 620nm. Far better than standard and no real need to drop a cog when overtaking. Fuel economy improved slightly aswell.

Remapping even easier would be to unplug the air temperature sensor, where a lot of ââ,¬Ëœnaughty boy chip boxesââ,¬â,,¢ plug in between to make it think itââ,¬â,,¢s colder than it actually is.
I did it with my old A4 130 & it just thinks itââ,¬â,,¢s colder outside than it really is, puts a bit more fuel in for a fair bit power.  :D

Even  easier way is buy a cheap mpps cable and send me your file, even with clone mpps v16/18 you can do obd and boot mode safely, the edc15p is a mighty old ecu.

30bhp is what you normally gain on a safe tune, gt1749v I don't like to go past 1.4 - 1.45 bar at peak torque.

I have a 29f800 in my Alhambra so can use +5v(buck converter) or ground to switch maps on the fly,

You can also have launch control, egr off ect.

I will be fitting 150 turbo and 130/150 injectors when the weather brightens up, 3 bar map sensor off the 130/150 and should see 190+ bhp from my auy 115 although will have to monitor egt and intake air temp, not sure the small inter-cooler will be up for the job.

I used the guide off here for retro fitting fis display and stalk so don't mind doing a few maps for free.

I'm quite content with my 130 Galaxy and want it to run longer not faster
but  hate the crap the EGR puts in TD manifolds and bought a blanking plate
with regard to fitting that as a first step

Considering it may trigger some ECU faults
I found the site linked to below interesting and downloaded the VAGsuite software to play with.
They say:
"Itââ,¬â,,¢s designed for editing ecu maps from the Bosch EDC15 for VAG group turbo diesels"
There's even a vid on just tinkering with egr behaviour

https://vperformance.co.uk/

To disable the egr from opening set the whole egr map to 850, this is the closed position for the egr valve, you will see in the original that 850 is the highest value which is egr closed,.

There is no hysteria switches on edc15 so doing above is all that is needed, no eml or issues.

Your pd130 asz is a very strong engine so do not worry about remapping as long as it's done correctly.

yours has the gt1749va turbo, just don't have it pushed more than 1.45 - 1.5 bar, EDC suite / winols shows total pressure including atmospheric so 2300mbar is 1300 mbar boost (1.3 bar) depending on your altitude ect, but here in the UK it's around 1 bar atmospheric.

Thanks John will note that.

I wondered about buying a second hand one to play with (or brick if I screw it up)
so I could refit the original if it all went fubar
any MKII Galaxy deisel edc15p ECU or a specific one ?

If you get matching hw / sw numbers you can use a spare ecu with no issues, the tool above has a menu labelled "generic" then select eeprom, you can then read the immo eeprom data from your current ecu via OBD and flash it to your new ecu via OBD, this means you have 1:1 cloned yours so plug and play with immo still intact.

Even bricking the edc15 with the lead posted above you will recover it every time 100%, have to put it in boot mode which requires removing the top but honestly it's really simple.

But using edc suite you will not brick your ecu as it calculates check sums, I don't even use a battery charger ford edc15 it takes 3 mins to write.

the edc15 is the nokia 3310 of the ecu world :)

Sounds fairly techy but can u change settings like making the car honk when u lock it and stuff like that too? Also I assume these map files are just a few kilobytes of data, are there any u can download off the web somewhere please.

DON'T download map files from the internet,  you engine uses the data from the various sensors then refers to the map file to calculate, boost , fuelling , injector duration ect ect.

Now imagine a bad file, best case scenario it runs poorly, worst case you cause physical damage.

The file size is 512kb, maps are used for tuning / launch control / DTC codes ect, if coding options are available for our cars then you will use a tool called VCDS, this does not read the map files at all and is solely VAG diagnostics and coding ect again clone tools are available but unlike commercial remap tools that may be way to expensive (one of my tools is 4k gbp) for the hobbyist VCDS is fairly priced.
