hi guys
new here and new to galaxy as only just got one (55 plate 130 PS),I love the car but have a couple of questions

The clutch pedal has to be pressed almost through the floor to allow a smooth(ish) gear change but there is still a slight 'snick' as the gear is selected not a grinding or clashing of gears you can just feel it grab slightly through the stick.
as the pedal is so low am i right in assuming this is more likely to be slave cyl in need of bleeding rather than clutch replacement?

if the clutch does need replacement complete with dmf etc where would be the most reasonably priced place to get one?

which obd software does everyone generally use for these beasties?

thanks in advance for any useful info :)

Sounds very like mine when it's cold. It definitely doesn't like a rushed gearchange. It's encouraged me to drive more sedately (no bad thing).

For diagnostics you can use the free version of VAG-COM (or newer VCDS-LITE) software from the Ross-Tech site.  You can get a a lead from ebay fro less than Ã,£10.  If you want to enable the "miles to empty" on the trip computer, then you also need a VAG-TACHO lead, also available from ebay fro slightly more.

thanks for the quick reply
I am already trying to be a careful driver and am changing gear very gently,
i also drive a vintage landy with no syncros on first and second so am used to timing the changes just right to avoid leaving a trail of gears down the road :)

Hi, that sounds very similar to how mine was; clutch take up almost on the floor with occasional baulking as you change gear. I also noticed a noise/vibration when the clutch pedal was half pressed. I followed advice and got the clutch and flywheel changed. The flywheel was in a bad way with play axially and rotationally; which might explain the low take up position (I'm guessing!).

Good luck with yours; I still have a bucket load of issues to sort!

thanks for that!LOL  :(
i was really really hoping to find a cheaper option than change the lot,

ok big question is where is going to do me the best price on a kit? looked online and there are dozens claiming to have the right setup for reasonable exchange of beer tokens yet when i call them mysteriously my car needs a different unit that cost extra Ã,£Ã,£Ã,£ :(
there has to be someone that can supply the kit without trying to skin me alive surely  ::)

Before buying the kit you should investigate and check the other possible causes. Air in the clutch system and low/poor fluid in the gearbox. The clutch is easy enough to bleed and replacing the fluid isn't tricky either (though you'll need a special socket to open the drain/filler) - there have been numerous oil revisions to the gearbox that help considerably with gear-change.

what would be the latest recomended oil for the gearbox?

opie says 2.5L EP 75w-80 GL5 can someone verify that is actually correct before i waste money on it please

job done finally:)
changed clutch slave cyl/release brg completely knackered dual mass was a little slack but not as bad as expected changed it as i was there anyway, everything was a pig and fought every step of the way, reassembled everything only to find out i couldn't select a gear despite a feather light clutch :O
a little homework revealed linkages needed adjusting (a new one on me LOL) reassembled it all again and presto! it all works sweet as a nut :) :) :)
nasty job not exactly hard but lots of dismembering and the gearbox is very heavy when it tries to jump out onto you and even heavier trying to heft it back in
not recommended for the faint hearted imho

Bet that was a pain! Did you use a hoist for the gearbox or just man handle the thing?

hoist on the engine and started by trying to use a trolley jack on the gearbox (dont do it! more hassle than its worth)
ended up heaving it out and back in by hand, fortunatly i got lucky and it popped straight onto the splines first time so no fighting to get things lined up :)
