Hi guys after reading most of the posts on over heating I think my water pump has gone is their a way of checking before I get it fixed

                                                                              thanks robbie

I've had the thermostat out and put it in hot water and it opened up I've also checked the water pump impeller and it dose not feel lose the heating in the car dose not work as well it blows cold air and I've checked the  T pipe that goes to the header tank and its not blocked Im starting to think that the head gasket has gone im going to flush the radiator today and see if that helps before she get booked in

Is there water returning to the bottle through the small pipe.

Is there a lot of pressure in the system when removing cap

Does the level fluctuate (rising up suddenly or falling)

Is there a lot of pressure in the system when removing cap  yes

Does the level fluctuate (rising up suddenly or falling   yes

just a quick update  went out in the car this morning when she warmed up the heaters worked blowing hot air so I drove her hard along the motorway doing over 70 mph for over 10 miles and the temp did not go over 90 so hopefully she just had a air block in the system  Grin

what year? have you checked the aux heater pump - the brushes maybe need replaced (or a new pump though replacing the brushes is cheaper, if longer, fix). after I repaired mine, the heater is a lot more responsive (though this was in the winter).

Depending on the model year, if you switch on then switch off the ignition, you should hear a hum coming from the back of the engine bay

There's a run on pump behind the expansion bottle make sure this is working I'm having the same problems switch on the ignition and listen for the pump running if not give it a tap with a spanner and listen again if it works start it up see how you get on
