GEAR LEVEL WILL NOT ENGAE WHILE PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL ABS WARNING LIGHT ON

Hello, guys,
I have a Ford Galaxy mk2 with a 2.3 petrol engine. The ABS warning light is on, and when the car is in park, pressing the brake pedal to shift the gear level to drive is ineffective. The gear level does not shift even when I press hard on the brake pedal, and the ABS warning light remains on. I would appreciate it if I could get a solution for this issue. Thanks."

I have a manual deisel Galaxy so not familiar with the petrol or automatic version
but would say the reason you cant select drive is because
a fault in the braking system is almost certainly the cause of this problem

Reading the fault codes using vcds-lite may help point you to the cause
and is most folks first step and is better and quicker than making guesses.

Here's a vague guess or two anyway:
Lets say for instance the brake pedal switch has failed.
If the control system does not get a signal from this when pressed
it will see this as an 'unsafe' condition and not allow Drive to be selected.
have you checked to see if the brake lights work?
Have you checked the brake fluid level?

I know what your saying about the brake light switch to be able to unlock the gear lever but I don't think it uses the switch by the brake pedal, automatics have a pressure switch in the brake pipe under the car near the centre exhaust box. ABS fault probably not related would need scanning for fault code maybe wheel sensor.
