arm ball joint dust cover

Just got my car serviced. He says that the anther of the ball joint of the suspension arm has worn out. I was told to fit it is very expensive for me, or it is easy for me to fit it myself. thanks for any replies

Yeah, those ruddy things always wear out. Probably about 45 mins Labour and £20 for the part to fix?

If you mean the rubber boot then they can be purchased

Measuring the size you want will narrow down your options so you only buy the ones you actually need.

Pop joint apart, remove old broken boot and replace with new one, put back together.

Alternatively you can buy another balljoint for £18 here - not sure what price it is where you are based as your shown as both in the uk and not in the uk? Euro car parts list them against my Reg at £17.99 under suspension arms.

Hi there, if it's the front lower ball joint I replaced both sides not so long back. It's not s difficult job technically but you could find that splitting the joint from the hub stubborn, mine took a good splitter plus a fair bit of persuasion with a lump hammer. For that reason I'd not see the point in just replacing the boot, especially given the rain we've had it's going to have crept in so corrosion won't be far away.

The other issue you might find could be getting the bolts out of the balljoint as well.

Looks fiddly and prone to give a lot of hassle without a ramp or blowtorch etc... tbh I'd pay the garage's 45 mins Labour and just get the job done. Although I do completely understand about the cost. Maybe shop around and haggle a bit?
