intermediate driveshaft carrier/mounting bracket 1.9 tdi 6 speed manual

Greetings. First post here, thought I have spent many hours reading, preparing to replace the offside driveshaft on my 2001 Galaxy mk1 1.9 tdi 115cv 6 speed manual.  I have not been able to find the answer to my question what is the exact name of and part number of the support for the inner driveshaft I would need to get to use a later model steel bearing support shaft on my car that has the aluminum bearing support? Assuming this can be done.

There is a post my Tikka and a reply from Daddyfixit saying he got the bracket from a breakers (from an Audi) and used the later model driveshaft on his car, but was  unable to recall the model of Audi and there was no part number or photo of the part. Where i live in Spain there are not many breakers and they are not well disposed to listening to an explanation of a part you need from an amature mechanic, so going to a breakers and describing my problem is a no-go.

Any help greatly appreciated. i embarked on this journey thanks to posts on this forum, and have already replaced the left hand driveshaft.

Thank you very much. At least I think I know what they call the part: transmission carrier, the part number is see is 09B 409 905. The problem is my 2001 Galaxy has a AUY motor (1.9 TDI 115 cv) and is not included in the motors on the parts lists.  They just show (or all I can find is) the aluminum tower like I have on mine for the AUY motor and I can't find a suitable replacement inner driveshaft for this type of support on my side of the channel. The other versions abound, as I think I mentioned.

I suppose the same 6 speed manual transmission was fitted with various motors and production years, and to other models of the VAG group, but I don't know. If someone could post a photograph of the piece, and ideally a photo of where it bolts to (just in case you happen to have these sorts of photos along with your holiday shots) I would greatly appreciate it. If someone could confirm the name of the part and part number that would be great as well.

Back in the day when I changed mine, Motomax.pl offered both versions and they are very well made.

The carrier can be retrofitted as I removed the aluminium one from mine and swapped it for the steel carrier, you are looking for part number 02N409335E. The shaft has a pressed on bearing that sits within the carrier as I recall and they aren't interchangeable.

Thank you very much. I was just looking at the photos from your post--which got me started on all this, a big thanks since I really cant afford to take the car to a mechanics--and it seemed to me they might be interchangeable. Good to have it confirmed. The motormax replacement is now almost 300 euros, and I can get one made by maxgear, gsp, skf, era benelux, or kamoka from autodoc, who respond to emails and pay return shipping, for around 100 euros. Motormax have not responded to my emails, and on their webpage it says the part is not in stock, but if you click "buy" the page takes you to paypal, so I could try, if you think it would be a better investment than any of the other brands I've mentioned. The car has 230k kms on the clock (who knows the real kms) so if taken care of I've seen ones for sale with over 300k and even one with 450! so I suppose it will last a while longer.
I think I have attached a photo of my driveshaft. The flange on your outer driveshaft is different than mine, but it looks like the bolt patterns and distances are the same. Many thanks again. I will be replacing the shock mounts, brake disks and pads, complete steering rod (tie rods) and the driveshafts, which should tighten things up a bit.

I get the bearing for that part number. I need the support for the shaft to replace the aluminum one. I've marked it in blue on your photo.

WOW! Didn't realise they were still that price, back when I got them they were comparable with OEM but then there wasn't any other aftermarket alternative then! They were also quick to reply so it seems they have gone downhill
The quality (when I got them) was really good and even after what must be coming up for 10 years, they are still solid.

I don't recall having to get that bracket, my memories normally pretty good with stuff like that so I think it was already on mine.

I take it back, just found my notes (yes I know I'm sad) from changing over and I needed "Carrier Bracket" from VW 09b409905 -

Not sad at all. Sad is not keeping records, like me, who has 18 apple trees planted of 18 varieties of apples I had shipped over from the UK--before once again "the continent has been cut off from England", but this time by politics and not by the weather--and doesn't know which tree is which because I didn't keep a record and the labels all fell off.

With your part number I feel reasonably confident I have located a spare and am in the process of having it shipped to me. Photo attached for confirmation and in case there is someone else in my situation in the future who doesn't know what the part looks like. Thanks ever so much and I will let you know how it comes out. I might even try to take a few photos of the process of substituting the bearing mount carriers.
