Just lately the galaxy has decided it doesnt want to start!
Weirdly when I disconnected the cam position sensor it starts! Runs like a bucket for about twenty seconds and then cuts out. Scaned the car for faults and found cam position sensor out of range this after reconnecting the sensor, so sourced a new sensor, fitted but still wont start!  The new sensor also comesback on the scan as out of range? Any ideas or suggestions as to what to try next, have also changed the dreaded 109 relay still the same!

Does sound like the timing could be out? is it due for a cam belt or has it been off recently, have a read of the link below.

Would that explain why the engine will start with the cam sensor unplugged?

Without the sensor plugged in it's using the basic setting from the crank position sensor.
Check cam belt and pulleys for wear, replace as necessary.

Now you said it the old grey matter creaked into life, probably wouldn't hurt to renew the belt anyway and reset the cam timing, then see how we go from there.

Okay,
set about dismantling the Galaxy to be able to reset the timing, all went well until it came to removing the aux belt pulley to be able to set and lock the crank timing, so the question is

How do you remove the bolt holding the aux belt pulley, have had the car in 2cnd gear so as to stop the engine rotation but the friggin bolt will not budge! If I cant get this pulley off I can't replace the timing belt either! HELP!!!

Hi

Am assuming your referring to the crankshaft pulley, you do not need to remove the centre bolt only the four smaller bolts.

Was referring to the aux belt pulley, when all the bolts were removed the pulley wouldn't budge, so just wanted to check that the crank bolt wasn't holding it on, since been able to remove it gave it a good dose of WD40, yesterday, left it to soak in and gave it a tap with a block of wood and a lump hammer and off it came, can now get on with re-timing as soon as i pick up the new belt and tensioner and water pump while its all off might as well change them all as all about due for replacement.

Sorted, reset the timing after changing the timing belt, tensioner,  and roller,
Started first turn.

Just shows how critical the timing is on these engines]

Confusion with auxiliary belt pulley! yes it does drive the auxiliaries but is always referred to as the crankshaft pulley.

Not a problem regarding the pulley, just wouldnt budge during removal, and just couldnt see the join around the pulley,yeah these engines are really sensitive when it comes to timing unbelievably sensitive! Lol still sorted now!
