Parking Sensor System Fault

I have just loaded up vcds lite to check for faults with the parking sensors

I have cleared registered faults and there is one obvious one present

Any indications where I should concentrate looking for the short first

01548 - Supply Voltage for Parking-Aid Sensor
            29-00 - Short to Ground

06 WGR Ford Galaxy

That code relates to rear right sensor most likely the sensor at fault but if you are able try swapping with next one along and see if fault code changes just to be sure before replacing it

Sounds like it could be a fair bit of hassle, are these sensors easy to replace or does the plastic around the bumper go brittle and crack etc

The only problem your likely to encounter is the socket bit thats stuck to the lower bumper can pull off when you try to remove the sensor from it. But it can be stuck back in place. Access isn't the easiest but can be done without removing anything else.

I found a screw driver to open the retaining clips then hold socket against bumper while pushing sensor from other side released them without issue

That's what should work, though I think mine and been pulled off previously making it more likely to come off again.

I just swapped the sensor to check then I got code
01547 - Rear Mid -Right (G205)
31-00 Open or short to ground

So it is looking like that sensor

But the issue that I have and I do not know if it is that I am using Shareware version of VCDS Lite
When I cleared the code it just reverts back to the original code

01548 - Supply Voltage for Parking-Aid Sensor
            29-00 - Short to Ground

Is the shareware version limited that much that I can't read the codes with confidence?

You should be fine with the shareware version, if it won't do something it will say its a locked function. It does show fault code with shareware version tagged onto it in certain cases, but this is an extra message thats all.

You might find the code changes completely if you unplug your suspect sensor and leave it disconnected. Provided it then loses the short to ground message you should be fine I think. It may be indicating a wiring fault of course, which may change as the wire moves.

I'm not sure offhand where the pdc module lives, I seem to remember some of them being under the passenger seat, and can fall victim to being flooded by the rear washer leaking, but that may be earlier models than yours?

I tried unplugging the sensor which I thought was faulty but it does not function normally with that one removed
Tried removing all 4 rear sensors and the front do not operate
Still shows this fault
01548 - Supply Voltage for Parking-Aid Sensor
            29-00 - Short to Ground

But I still think it was weird when I just swapped the right rear with the inner right rear it showed

01547 - Rear Mid -Right (G205)
31-00 Open or short to ground

When I cleared the code it reverted to

01548 - Supply Voltage for Parking-Aid Sensor
            29-00 - Short to Ground

The control module is under the passenger seat I must remove it and check the connections

If the above reading had stayed on Rear Mid-Right (G205) after clearing the codes I would just order up a sensor but the fact that it didn't is annoying which is pointing to another fault and the chances of two faults occurring at the same time seems a little slim.

I was full sure when I had replaced a faulty front sensor previously that the other 3 worked fine when the faulty one was unplugged.

But this is not the case at the moment.

I would get the meter on the wiring loom and check it out, measure from control unit back to each sensor plug.

Yes, and make sure u make notes as u go along as sometimes there is a lot to keep track of!

It might also be worth unplugging the rear section of the loom and clearing codes to see if the short code disappears (will be replaced with another code, but if its replaced with open circuit messages at least you have narrowed down the area the short is located in)

Good shout there Brian, seem to remember the plug connecting main loom to loom going to sensors is behind access panel for nearside rear light.

I think that's likely the case, the front is like that, not had the rear bumper off on one with parking sensors.

I had disconnected all 4 rear sensors from the plug just underneath the rear bumper and still had the same fault

01548 - Supply Voltage for Parking-Aid Sensor
            29-00 - Short to Ground

I removed the controller under the passenger seat to check for water damage and nothing found

Sprayed contact cleaner on all sensor and controller connections

Same fault still present

The code clears once reverse is not engaged but re appears once activated

I also had disconnected all front sensors which made no difference to the original fault

On a side note

What is code 01271 Positioning Motor for Temperature Flap (V68)
Where is it located?

It will be something in the heater box that controls the flow through the heater matrix (its a flap driven by a motor that directs air through the matrix for hot, or diverts it past it for cold).

I'd guess the main heater box in the front, rather than the rear one. Try changing settings on the ac (would guess you have the automatic climate type one with this error coming up) and see which one doesn't seem to change temperature.

Is there another wiring diagram available as the one that I found on this site for the sensors shows 3 x 16 pin plugs going into the control module where mine has 2 x 12 and 1 x 16 pin socket.
