the warning light of the brake failure came on today in my 2003 Galaxy 1.9 TDI. apparently  the off side  rear brake assembly is leaking fluid behind the bolt that hold the hand brake assembly.  see attached pic. is this something can be fixed of does it needs a visit to the garage.

Needs a new caliper as fluid is escaping from the seal on handbrake arm shaft.

thanks John, is the caliper easy to replace?

I had the same fault on the same OSR caliper a couple
of years ago and replaced it
It wasnt expensive or hard.
the only snag I recall was trying to disconnect the flexi from the fixed pipe.

The fittings were pretty corroded and rounded off so I ended up having to
spin the caliper off the flexi  and vice versa to fit the new one.
No problems since.

You will need to bleed it afterwards as well. It's not particularly difficult, new rear calipers can be found on Ebay for around Ã,£30. Be aware they are handed though, so make sure you get the correct side.

Filling the reservoir is a pain due to its location, you may find it easier to remove the scuttle to make space.

Also donââ,¬â,,¢t forget to clamp the flexi so fluid doesnââ,¬â,,¢t continually drip out while you do the repair.

many thanks to all of you
