Bought a new galaxy LX only 169thou on the clock really chuffed apart from a few niggles, rear passenger door wont unlock off central locking, is this the door loom ? It picks when it wants to start just trys to fire but no avail 3 attempts then it fires ordered a new 109 relay am i right to have done this? Also has a water leak, not bad but enough for an hour drive to get the warning up theyve said its a pipe under the alternator has anyine got a pic of said pipe? Have no heat so im assuming with this done ill get heat after bleeding the system.
Thanks for any advice

Central locking is most likely door wiring damaged or the small block in door socket pushed back.

Hard to say with the starting relay 109 always a good place to look at, also could be fuel draining back if you turn ignition on and off a few times does this help with starting?

No picture but from description it sounds like the thermostat housing hose which goes off to the radiator. I would be sceptical that is cause of the no heat though, best get the leak sorted and system bled to find out but I wouldnââ,¬â,,¢t be surprised if there is an underlying cause like head gasket leak. Do you get a trickle of water back to expansion tank through small bore hose when engine is idling also does system pressurise after being on a run? (Hoses hard, gurgling through heater etc)

Yes check broken wires on all doors including tailgate, they all suffer with wiring breaking.

109 relay does cause problems and is not that expensive but does involve getting to the third layer in the fuse box, I think I would be inclined to check glow plugs first as you say it's trying to fire and as it's still quite cool temperature wise may be an issue.

Assuming the booster heater and electric circulating are not working? the pump is essential for the operation of the booster heater but also aids flow through the rear passenger heater.

Scroll down through the pics in the link below, it shows the bottom hose with the alternator removed, the pipe fits on to the thermostat housing which is held on by two bolts. Whether the leak is from the hose or the housing you will be wise to check the thermostat, also you can check the water pump impeller which is visible through the opening make sure it doesn't spin on the shaft or even broken off

The cooling system will bleed any air back to the expansion bottle through the small hose at the top make sure this pipe gets warm as the engine warms up, you should see coolant flowing into the bottle from this pipe.

Hopefully you don't have any head gasket problems but see how you get on.

With VCDS lite (full version) need a code clearing or want to scan for faults in the north kent area, PM me. All for a pint of Strongbow.

Got some waterproof tape to see if its just there thats leaking before ordering a new one, hopefully it holds up, systems gets upto temp fine and doesnt overheat just cold through tbe heaters, ive ordered the relay Ã,£9 off ebay new with warranty ive had the box out on my previous (star drill attatchments) it started fine three times viewing the car and then to drive for fuel then home, got home water light was on took 3 attempts to start. When going its fine no smoke and same power as my previous

Im assuming this is the housing? Solid plastic pipe thats leaking

To steel seal or not to? Seems its coming from where the metal pipe goes into the housing under the vaccum bulb/alternator area

In this image it looks like it's running down the block to the right of the plastic tube think that pipe goes around to the oil cooler, maybe the tubes rotted away.

Yeah i cleaned the pipe off and more came out, its at the back of the pipe and adding pressure to the system (pipe squeeze) it sprays out, there is a seal there so unsure if thats gone because running a finger around it doesnt feel cracked or split

As you say maybe just an O ring, never known that to leak though, always a first time.

It looks like a rusty stain there as though there's very little coolant/antifreeze in there.

I picked it up yeterday, ive only topped up with water (till repaired then drain and antifreeze) so unsure if he ran it without antifreeze, whats the part its attached too? (maybe a dumb question) how hard of a job to doim assuming seal is just pop out slap a new one in

That tube goes right along and round the back and is clamped in two places, the ring is available on ebay hope you don't need the tube.

I had an Audi A3 where that pipe had rusted and split it wasnââ,¬â,,¢t too difficult to replace looks easier on that engine as boost pipework not same set up as a BKC engine, looking at yours it appears to be more localised in the seal area though. Only way to know for sure is by taking it off.

And given the rust I would also check the little restrictor in small bore pipework to expansion bottle isnââ,¬â,,¢t blocked. If it is push it out with a screwdriver and open hole out with a 2mm drill bit.

Dont suppose you have a link at all? I checked the restrictor (took it off and listened when squeezing the pipe and you can hear air, trying to avoid a garage for the leak but unsure if i had to take off the alternator ect

Also as im sat in it now i can feel a knocking under the floor :S

Sorry donââ,¬â,,¢t have a link,itââ,¬â,,¢s been a couple of years since I did the Audi I donââ,¬â,,¢t recall having to take alternator off. Even if you do itââ,¬â,,¢s a simple job on the galaxy to move alternator out the way.

What sort of knocking have you got?

Makes the car feel like its rocking, put my foot on the clutch and it goes away, im thinkinh gearbox mount

Im assuming this is the part but cannot find a seal for it

Got it booked in tommorow to sort it for me, but now the inly door that opens on the central locking is the drivers door "sigh"

Only frivers rear didnt, left the battery off yesterday while finding the leak with drivers door ipen, could this of caused it?

Previous owner got rid for a reason.
Hope you didn't pay a lot for it.

Or DMF failing.

The central locking issue is common and inconvenient but thats all
It took me a few goes to sort mine

If it runs ok when it does go, I'd suggest investigating the
knock and water leak first then when you're sure you have no
serious/expensive problems or you've sorted them.
look at the door wiring

Mine was due to a worn commutator in the motor of the passenger rear door
I stripped it down and cleaned the bridged segments on the commutator
and it's been fine since.

The garage its going to is doing a check over for me of all the parts i know and said about and quoting each for me, i did the clutch on my old galaxy was a faff but sorted it out over 2 days, if needs must ill single mass it ive seen the price of flywheels, it seems to go fine ive done 150 miles in it and not had an issue with pulling along or harsher accelerating

Garage literally had it 4 hours put a mirror behind then called to say order the part >:( its the BTB engine so fun to fine now have to wait for the postage from LT, will update as i go

109 relay done can now hear the pump prime properly, suprise suprise the brown and yellow red door wire has snapped

Those wires do go brittle very easily don't they. I have one in my rear brake cluster where the insulation is starting to crack and expose the wire too. Usually easy to fix but a bit fiddly and it would have been good if they could have used slightly higher quality wire really

Yeah ive just used terminal blocks will my soldering iron comes, typically the passenger door lock gave up on me the minute it started working again  :( it will all get there slowly, need to sort water leak and door locks first the other bits can wait for now lol

Awaiting the pipe to come, dropped Ã,£3 when ordered, i cannot find any diagrams on here or in the haynes for this, i dont even know what its called apart from oem number, ive got a new stat to go in so will be checking the water pump and getting quotes on timing and pump to be done just incase, im suspecting more bad news ahead tho, i did 30 miles the other day it over heated allowed to rest and top up water roughly 2 litres and it fired straight back up. After running for a while the other day i noticed the return hose to the expansion was cold all others were hot, the pipe isnt blocked (checked by blow/suck and could hear air escaping from the leaking pipe) theres seems little pressure when hot and next to no pressure when cold, the leak is alot worse when the stat opens up, i get no hot air what so ever in the car just cold so im hoping this new pipe sorts it all out, it drives nicely (same as my old one) until it over heats (happened twice now) i will take pictures and post here in and in a new thread to show the process of getting to said pipe, im suspecting either pump or lack of pressure is causing the return pipe to stay cold and not release back to the bottle.

its not unknown with the diesels for the impeller on the pump (the fan like bit) to become disconnected from the shaft and hence doesn't get driven when it should do. I think the lack of return through the little pipe to the expansion is usually a sign of that being the case.

Still waiting in the part to arrive, used some instant gasket over the offending pipe at the moment and now have heat :) but randomly it cut out twice displayed battery light turned off then started straight up :S new battery last year

Right so all central locking done, passenger and rear drivers motors where rusty and caput so all thats done and dusted, as for this damn pipe, ive took off battery tray expansion tank unsure what the top pipe is, several water pipes fuel filter all plastics surrounding the battery tray. Undone one bolt on the pipe that needs to come off which was a 11mm :S now the last one pictured is an allen key and a pain to get to, got too dark so thats tommorows job

Right its all done forgot to take my phone out with me, so sorry for no pics, in addition to what i took off yesterday the throttle body off alternator and thermostat pipe and gear selector (changing anyway good job i did as it was stuck in there) utter pain, one 10mm bolt on the front of the pipe and one 7mm allen key at the back -.-
