steering wheel controls not working and horn sounds on its own

hi everyone its my first time on here and got a couple of probs .iv got no steering wheel controls atall .the horn works when it wants and sometimes on its own usally when im sitting in traffic .bought the galaxy about a month ago and didnt check it then .my own fault i know and the previous owner said it was working somehow i dont believe him as its never worked atall . .also i dont know if its connected in anyway but the alarm seems to go off whenever it wants when its locked up usually at nite .sometimes it dosnt go off for days then gos off every ten minites .any ideas plz as im not the most popular guy in the street at the moment

When you say no controls, have you got the radio/cruise buttons or is it just the horn thats not working?

The alarm is probably the ultrasonic sensors at the top of the B pillars - check for spider webs in and around the housing. If not a fault code scan of the car should say what's triggered the alarm.

yes its got the radio and cruise control buttons and horn .thought the alarm prob mite be battery as two places said the batterys on its way out but didnt change a thing .iv checked for spidy webs and windows shutting properly .any idea where the alarm switch is on the bonnet and boot door as was going to check them to .iv ran a diagnostic check and comes up all clear .anyway getting back to steering wheel controls .i was thinking as the horn gos off when ever it feels like it would there be some sort of relay or control box somewhere for all the steering wheel controls .any ideas anyone help me plezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz lol

yes thats right no radio or cruise control atall and horn when it wants to work even sound on its own when your in traffic or just driving along

Well the multifunction steering wheel (MFSW) is completely different to the standard wheel in terms of how its wired up. On the standard wheel the horn is a simple push-to-make circuit however on the MFSW setup its all microprocessor controlled.

I would suggest you have one of two issues:

1) The clock spring has failed
2) The controller has failed.

The clock spring is what allows the steering wheel to rotate without breaking all the wires. On non MFSW car's this would almost certainly be the problem and its a good shout to be it here. The bad news is that they are different between the with and without versions and very expensive.

The controller lives in the main CJB (With all the other relays) - IIRC its number 453 and ludicrously expensive

They are on level 2 of the cabin fusebox, there are details of how to access it in the reference library
