USB socket/ voltage indicator

Ok so in a moment of madness accompanied by an unusual feeling of being competent I've ordered the device pictured, as mentioned  in a recent post.Any suggestions as to wiring it somewhere thats reasonably accessible.The cigar lighter socket was mentioned as a possible but on my mk2 bammy its live all the time which isn't ideal,thanks .

I was thinking of splicing it into the ignition controlled power wire for the stereo. Not sure which one that is but canââ,¬â,,¢t be too hard to
Find with a multimeter. Iââ,¬â,,¢m guessing I ought to put an inline fuse in it too.

Yes pal that could be handy, I've got the little unlocking key things somewhere from my Passat if the radio comes out the same way.It hasn't come yet but just thinking ahead.

Yes!! Hehehe I have exactly the same problem, I stuck my kenwood stereo in really tight and canââ,¬â,,¢t remember where I put the dam keys to slide the thing back out again lolol. Iââ,¬â,,¢m sure Iââ,¬â,,¢ll figure it out somehow

I'm looking for a switched supply - Petrol here, but one of the lowest numbered fuse holders looks like its switched (its either 1 or 2 can't remember which) and free on mine, so that with an inline fuse holder should do the job.

The add a circuit type modules don't fit the fusebox on the Galaxy (or only fit very few of the available slots due to where the wire comes out). I've got a dashcam wired in using one of those in the bottom slot, but really don't like that arrangment. Ground can be picked up from the metal framework around the fusebox. Ideally you want to avoid drawing too much through the stereo wiring. I need to grab a few bits to properly sort that out.

For anyone else doing this, if you remove the rubber cover off the one listed (it will just pull off with a little stretching) it fits into the switch holes on the mk2. And the black plastic caps just prise out fairly easily.

Fitting a switch between the cigar ligher and Voltage/USB sockets is simple enough
I did it on mine as I have 4 sockets in all plus an extra cigar lighter socket
and the car isn't in use much and I didN'T want to increase the parasitic drain
especially in winter.
Flicking a switch when I want to use USB/ACC sockets or see the voltage isn't really a chore
and I can leave stuff on charge when leaving the car for shortish periods.

Using the first available fuse point with a spade connector and inline fuse holder seems to have worked fine for me, part of the reason for doing so is I do want to have it switch off automatically as I forget to remove the charger usually otherwise. Might not be an option on the diesel engine as I'd suspect that fuseholder is in use, but maybe theres another suitable one you could use instead.

Good find there Regw, only difference I notice is the display on mine is blue not red, though that works quite well as well.
