Hey everyone! My  2004 130 PD bamma failed its mot today on emissions as they couldn't get it to lower enough despite a good ragging before hand. Its was serviced less the 2k miles ago so need to know what I should do now :(

Unplug the MAF and send it in again, it'll get a fast pass every time  ;)

LOL thatââ,¬â,,¢s the way to do it!!

Those Obamaââ,¬â,,¢s are awesome cars, thereââ,¬â,,¢s so often an easy fix for things like this!!

I wonder if shoving a bottle of redex through the tank might be worthwhile at some point

I am happy to help you with all your questions. I am not a qualified mechanic but seem to be better at fixing my car than even the most experienced garages.

I have lots of friends here and very much enjoy talking with you all. Always remember, a motor car is a serious tool and should be treated with respect. Put your safety first, always.

It's a trick I've been doing for years, albeit only so they don't have to rev it to the redline 3 or 4 times. Simple on these as the MAF doesn't put the management light on, unplug it then rest the connector back on and no-ones the wiser. Obviously if its smoking away then you need to do something about it but if not, then a bottle of cleaners a good shout.

I gave up caring some time back tbh, since the government continue to be happy allowing shipping and airlines to produce the monstrous pollution they do (Carnival Cruise Liners for example emitted 10x more SOx then ALL of Europe's cars combined in 2017 - Source). So for me, any excess pollution my 2K miles a year generates isn't going to make an ounce of difference. Same when you think of the Ã,£0 tax cars doing 60K miles a year vs the Ã,£500 sports car that sits it in the garage 95% of its time - what's polluting more?

So, so true. It makes me so mad when I see adverts on TV for luxury cruises, which to me is usually just a bunch of self-indulgent people using money they have obtained beyond the value they have created for the economy to pay cruise operators who in turn spend vast amounts on fuel that they then burn and bellow out into the atmosphere just so they can move thousands of tonnes of metal amount the oceans to give someone a nice view. Similarly when I see adverts for long haul flights. I on the one hand get lectured for leaving my 0.5 watt charger on standby yet others pop across to australia for a nice holiday every now and then or shift 100,000 tonnes of metal around the mediterranean so they can relax on a deckchair and sigh "ahhh that's the life" while putting out more pollution in one holiday than my charger would use in literally a million years. If I had my way I would ban cruises, it makes me so cross just thinking of the damage it does to the environment and all the young generations and animals and nature yet nobody seems to care about it

Just thought I should add that not all people who go on cruises are necessarily aware of the environmental impact, the cruise operators should be told that they have to put a CO2 note on their brochures or something like that.

So for instance when you buy food in the supermarket it has all the red yellow green stickers to tell you how good or bad it is, maybe they should do the same for cruises so people know how many kilo-tonnes of pollution each different cruise causes

People themselves are generally lovely but we just have to watch out for pollution
