Top mount plate is hitting the body work. Already changed the top mounts twice now but it still hits, is there a modification

Which bit have you changed? The normal bit that wears is the rubber donut, part number 7 on the linked diagram

I've changed that part twice. One was genuine, one wasn't.  That's still in good order. Have changed leg, all the joints, even anti roll bar bushes but still bangs.

You mention the ARB bushes, is that the links as well? Is there any sign of which part is banging (clean spots, rubbed paint/dents etc?)
https://volkswagen.7zap.com/en/rdw/sharan+syncro+4motion/sha/2003-406/4/407-407000/ part 17 being the bush, 20 being the link.

I've had a banging that i thought was ARB links happen on the mk1 which was actually a loose brake caliper - would rattle on rough surfaces (until the retaining bolt came out eventually making it obvious where the issue was) That was the bolt holding the retainer itself on, one of them came out which then allowed the brake caliper to swing free and jam against the wheel.

Thanks I'll  check that.  Let you know

You say top mount plate is hitting bodywork,do you mean as suspension moves down/body moves up it is bottoming out on the top of suspension turret?
