HID lights

When driving with the headlights on there is a 1-2second, quiet, high-pitched beep every 3 or 4 minutes.  It's taken a while to work out that it is the car and that it only happens with the headlights on.  Doesn't matter if the switch is in the on or auto positions and it doesn't stop if you kill the headlights during the beep.  Normal?  A fault?  It's really annoying now that I've noticed it.

HIDs can make noises from the ballest pack and they are usually high pitched however rarely can be heard inside the cab and should stop if the lights are switched off.

As the bulb ages the ballest has to work harder so can lead to noises creeping in but tbh, I'm not convinced that's what you are hearing.

I would probably pull the connectors from the back of the headlights, maybe even one at a time, to see if the noise goes away.

OK, thanks.  It seems to be coming from the driver side footwell/door card but it's difficult to be sure.  I certainly won't be putting my head down there as I'm going along.

No warnings/fault codes, BTW.

Does it only do it while driving or does it happen stationary? Seems an odd thing to happen especially in footwell area

Haven't tried it stationary.  Will see if I can make a recording some time today.

Half a dozen short (max 15 mins) journeys so far and not a peep.  Grrrrr.  Or maybe not.

Still not making long journeys due to lockdown.  The noise is very similar to the initial squeak from this ballast on Youtube.
