Hello everyone,  I am new here. Want to revive my old Galaxy sitting at yard already an year. Changed the battery but somehow I cant it start up normaly ( it used to have problems but not like this ). Engine fires up on several attempts , but working only several seconds and then die , what should I check at first , what could be the reason, checked wires (4 main wires on cylinders , do not know its english name) they are working fine. What about the catalyst , can it do such thing with engine?

I really need to make it drive to get to the repair for additional 0roblems like electirc window up and down issues as evry other Galaxys.
Here are a little amount of Galaxys and Sharans here in my country so repair guys does not know much about them
I live in Georgia
Please throw some advises .
Thanks in advance

Can add pictures and videos doing that.

If itââ,¬â,,¢s been sitting for a year first thing to do is fresh petrol as the old stuff will be stale. Then check for perished/split intake pipes and vac hoses

Also maybe run a bottle of Redex through it to rinse out any gunk perhaps
I drive a Seat Alhambra 1.9Tdi which has 115bhp and an automatic gearbox.

I am happy to help you with all your questions. I am not a qualified mechanic but seem to be better at fixing my car than even the most experienced garages.

Thank you for fast answer , problem is that it had the same symptoms but it was drivable , now it just does not even stays on dies after seconds, wires on cylinders are okay , even sparks are okay. Is there any chance that catalyst has a probelm , or maybe I should wash something inside? What do you think?

As above fresh petrol for sure wonââ,¬â,,¢t be the problem you had before but could well be making it worse.

Check the vac hoses and inlet pipework for splits etc as that would cause in metered air to enter throwing mixture off.
Also have a check of throttle body build up of oily grime.

Catalyst a possibility however unless it is seriously blocked I would expect more of a low power problem rather than cutting out and unable to idle

There is a fuel filter under the car, they rarely get changed and it may be somewhat clogged up with years of filtered muck. You should find a bleed valve on the end of the fuel rail, you might be able to monitor the fuel pressure there. If not, then taking the outlet off the filter and putting a piece of hose over the end to catch anything that comes out would let you know whats coming through, if you don't get much through it, try the same with the inlet side to narrow it down to the pump or filter.

The cat shouldn't be an issue unless its been misfiring prior to this and you've kept trying to run it like that. And if it was collapsed you can usually hear the debris rattling in the exhaust.

The other thing that can cause problems is the idle control valve on the throttle body, though if that is your problem it should stay running if you open the the throttle slightly (provided its not down to it being open too much)

Any idea if any fault codes are being logged?

Very good suggestions here

I had a lawnmower that kept conking out after I left it in the garage all winter. Once I got it started I made sure I kept it running for a while and revved it up quite a lot. Could u maybe get the car running and then Rev it up and take it for a drive just to get any junk worked out of the system maybe
