Alternator help

Hi all,looks like my alternator has packed up but there are 3 types listed for the 130 depending on the current output, can anyone help,thanks

I have a 04 130 and cant help with part numbers but
mines about 145-150 Amp as I recall.
If mine 'went' ie stopped charging the battery
the first thing I'd do is check electrical connections, the brushes
and slip rings.

I saw a neighbour bin the alt from his BMW 320D and buy new recently
when I examined it the bearings were perfect but the brushes were knackered
and the slip rings in poor state so may well have been easily/cheaply repairable
A slip ring and brush/regulator set can usually be bought for about Ã,£20 off Ebay

I would check out the battery fuse box first, you may have had a melt down, also worth checking is the alternator clutch pulley.

Thanks for the replies guy's.Ive checked in the fuse compartment from the battery and all seems ok.There should be about 14 volts being fed back to the battery when charging but it's hovering around 12. I was going to have a go myself but I'm no spring chicken any more so have decided to get my my mechanic guy to sort it,I don't think he'll mess with the brushes though where but I may have done.The prices of alternators are a bit frightening especially with the higher amp ones which knowing my luck mine will be one.I somehow knew something like this would happen 6 weeks before mot time.

Just checked and mine's a Bosch 120A
I got that 150A figure from the beemer one
I was playing with.

Eurocarparts out of interest want
Ã,£235 for a Bosch 120A
Ã,£138.99 for the RTX 120A
Oddly, the 90A RTX is Ã,£155.99

I'm no spring chicken either and wont grovel around underneath anymore
but whipped mine out easily enough to change the overrun pulley, it wasn't difficult.

Be advised, some of the cheaper reman/refurb ones offered on Ebay may not include the
overrun pulley and have bog standard ones fitted.

Iââ,¬â,,¢m also not a spring chicken and last time my alternator went on a Ford Focus the garage put a cheapo unit on which I think was meant for a petrol car (mine was diesel) and the battery light used to come on at idle revs if I had everything turned on so since then I decided always to make sure I get the best quality alternator I can and also if possible to do it myself seeing as the garage bodged it (petrol alternator canââ,¬â,,¢t output same power at low revs as one designed for Diesel engine, in the case of the Ford Focus at leas t).
I drive a Seat Alhambra 1.9Tdi which has 115bhp and an automatic gearbox.

The RTX ones have a bad reputation, or at least did a few years ago. It might have just been a faulty new alternator rather than the wrong one.

When you say the overrun pulley do you mean the one the actual belt goes on,I found this refurb bosh one whick looks complete ,thanks

Can't edit the above post but meant to ask if this looks like the correct pulley in the picture or may there be a subtle difference.

I do recall seeing some refurb units where they stated the alt was fitted with
a stock pulley and not an overrun type.
Not sure how to tell them apart visually perhaps others can or you can ask the
vendor.

I only found mine had an overrun pulley when the belt started to squeal at low revs
when backing into parking spaces for instance

You need a special tool to swap them so getting a new alt and pulley
saves time and money

have a look at the tensioner at tick over, it shouldn't move much
if it is, the pulleys knackered

Ok thanks,it seems to be from a proper reputable company and they confirmed it was def for my model so if its not it'll be going straight back.I'll post how I get on when it comes tomoz.Why do these things always bloody happen when you've just paid for tickets to go somewhere,hence any any sign of slight panic in my post.

I have to say the mechanic who fitted my alternator was very impressed with both the price and quality of the refurbed unit.Cost was Ã,£106 inc free next day delivery for the Bosch 120 amp version and didn't need the old unit returning.Happy to provide the company details if anyone wants them.

Pop them up mate, no problems posting details of recommended companies 👍🏻
