Considering DIY fitting a tow bar for occasional light trailer use but not sure how to identify if my car has PFT .
Any one able to assist?

Hello Mr Silverback Gorilla, I'm not sure of the answer to that but I had a tow bar added to my MkII Alhamb and the man that did it seemed to think it was all no problem even if there wasn't special wiring already in place for it... so might not be an issue either way hopefully?

I drive a Seat Alhambra 1.9Tdi which has 115bhp and an automatic gearbox.

I am happy to help you with all your questions. I am not a qualified mechanic but seem to be better at fixing my car than even the most experienced garages.

I have lots of friends here and very much enjoy talking with you all. Always remember, a motor car is a serious tool and should be treated with respect. Put your safety first, always.

Unfortunately Mk3 uses canbus so I want to get the right kit as it needs a bypass if I use a generic kit.
It's just useful if it has the PFT as you can plug and play , only needs some coding in, as i understand it. The PFT also does fog light, pdc delete when coupled up.
I like OE generally but have in the past made stuff work.

Etis might have the answer there, Mike Wilson has detailed how you can access it in the thread currently below this one

Don't know on the mk3, earlier Fords would typically have a connector somewhere toward the rear end of the car, hidden behind a kick panel usually. I think my mk2 has one behind the lefthand panel (where you change the bulbs in the rear cluster) and the focus I've got has the same in the same place. Not been inside a mk3 to know whats back there.

My 14 has a trailer hitch - don't know if it is OEM but, although not fitted from new it was a lease vehicle first, so I suspect so.  I can physically look for whatever you need to know about, if you are not in too much of a hurry.  What is PFT?

Prepared factory towing?

Essentially they fit a couple of multi-plugs , in one of the rear side panel areas i think, so that when a tow bar is fitted you don't need to hack the wiring with the use of a bespoke kit. Also does the fog light and parking sensor cut off when  atrailer is fitted.
i'm new to Fords if you don't count my Mk2 Escort GL in about 1988 so not sure on the exact location.
