Odd Noise when engaging clutch

Hi chaps

After some advice with the gal.

Noticed recently an odd noise when after selecting gear and with clutch still depressed like a whirring or vibrating or something loose.  Noise goes away once the clutch is released btw.

I had the DMF sand clutch replaced around this time last year as well.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

If you were stationary, with no brake applied - with the car in 1st but clutch in does it feel like it wants to move at all? Wondering if its clutch drag? Either that or sounds like early DMF noises :(

I will check tonight. I showed my father in law last night and he doesn't think it's the clutch or dmf. I probably explained it badly earlier as well (sorry)

I notice it more when accelerating quicker (rather than slower) and leaving the clutch pedal depressed. It sounds like something is loose or rattling (metal kind of sound). It doesn't do it when slowing down like holding the clutch in before changing down.

It could well be nothing to do with the clutch but since the engine goes quiet when you depress the clutch it's the only time I can hear it  ;)

Re the DMF, it's at 11 months so would be guaranteed anyway although as it's a SACHS one I heard they have a 24 month warranty. From my invoice it was the DMF/Clutch kit and a Master Slave Cylinder that I bought and was replaced.

Certainly sounding like DMF on the way out.
I would check that guarantee aswell, am not saying your a bad driver but clutch and brakes are both wear and tear items and may be considered driver at fault.

Hey guys

Popped into my mechanic yesterday and explained it to him so we went for a drive.

Heard the noise within 30 seconds and he said straight away Turbo or Turbo Vanes or turbo pipe could be cracked. He said this is the pd engine isn't it and mentioned about them clogging up etc.

He said if it's not loosing power etc (which it isn't) then not to be overly concerned. I also haven't had limp mode etc for a few years - I had it about 3 or 4 times some 6 months after getting the car and blew the crap out of it (after reading on the forums) alongside some Redex and touch wood it's been fine since.

I'm popping the car in next week for him to sort out a couple of minor things that I don't have time for so he can have a check underneath etc then.

Thoughts? (or questions I should ask)

ps - I did notice the noise a couple of times without the clutch etc being depressed. I'm guessing the noise of the engine hides it most of the time.

Could be a multitude of things mate, noises are never easy to diagnose and even less so over the internet ;)

Turbo waste-gate chatter isn't unheard of these, but I don't think I'd be that worried either ;)
