Screachy noise

Hello all. Hope you are all well.
I have a 2002 Galaxy 1.9TDi that has been parked up for quite a while....all over the christmas period and a bit more to boot.
Having just got it back on the road I have just noticed a screechy kind of noise coming from around the top rear ish centre of the engine...hows that for a bed description lol....at first it seemed to happen at around 2000 revs...then stop when you went beyond that...now its pretty much constant...including at idle.
Its driving me mental....could anybody please offer some help or advice.

If I tap the accelerator it goes up with it and stops for a second ...then comes straight back

Check the usual stuff like aux belt condition,tensioner condition and if alternator pulley is seized

I have had a good listen for the sound and its not coming from that side of the engine...its more central and seems to be upper central ?
It definitely reacts to the accelerator but it is now constant as you drive and at idle....and its driving me effing nuts lol.

Central area could be clutch release bearing or tandem pump. Unless you are very unlucky and itââ,¬â,,¢s camshaft related. Or even an exhaust/turbo issue

Does pressing clutch make any difference to noise?


Could be several causes you need to try and isolate some things to try and pin point.

Are you able to post a video to show us the noise?

I went out today with about half hour to spare for myself....kids etc....and the area circled in red is the area the sound is coming from lol...dont shout at me please lol....

the pipe in the yellow circle stops the noise....and the brakes apparently ...the taped up part was broken and loose...initially thought that was going to be the problem as when I was playing about with it trying to fix it ..the sound would stop...thinking that badly done repair was the answer...I put it all back together and drove off only to find the sound instantly came back.
Popped the bonnet again... had my little boy tap the pedal to bring on the noise. Had a look around and a feel around but the only thing that has any affect is disconnecting that pipe ?
I will get a video tomorrow as Im now doing dinner for my boys.
This is REALLY REALLY doing my head in...its embarrassing AND annoying.
Anymore advice will be very much appreciated.

Sorry forgot to say that I will check depressing the clutch tonight when I go out ...but pretty sure it doesnt...very reactive to accelerator...really likes it around 2000 revs...below that It doesnt happen either at all or certainly much much less.
It has had the turbo reconditioned a year ago ish...maybe more...and have had no obvious turbo related issues since then...like limp mode ..boost problems..nothing like that. Pulls well...goes fine....just this new noise since it was parked up for a few months.

Trace that pipe back, it looks to me like the one for the brake servo. They are known for splitting at the ends. Best bet is replace it with a length of silicon vacuum pipe of the same size, which solves the splitting issue.

Will do...but what Ive done seems to be holding tight...any connection to the noise though ?

Another question.... The tandem pump has the pipe pictured connected to the back side of the pump... I noticed that the actual metal connection that the pipe slides on to ..on the pump housing.. turns...constantly... Is that supposed to be that way ?

Don't know on the second question, I meant the other end of the pipe you repaired though. If one end split, good chance the other is the same.

Hard to say, I'd expect more of a hissing sound if anything from it, but if someone has tried repairing it before you might have something loose near it causing the sound.

The pipe in yellow circle goes off to egr and n75 valves along with the vac resavoir. Try taking that pipe off and blanking outlet on the solid plastic brake hose to see if noise stops. The rubber vac hoses quite often split due to age.

As for the metal part on tandem pump that should not rotate it should be fixed in the tandem pump,the pipe on to it will rotate though. From memory it is not a threaded part but is fixed in by interference?

Hello mate ..and thank you for your reply.
The metal pipe part on the pump definitely spins...I thought it seemed odd but I dont know enough about this stuff to say.
Can I seal it with something ? or should I replace it...
On a seperate note Im very reluctant to spend too much more money on the Galaxy as its not in good enough condition to warrant it....but obviously I will keep it going if possible and not too costly.
That said ...I do want this effing noise sorted out....its killing me lol.
I will check the pipe in a minute to see it it stops the noise...I think I did this yesterday along with various other blocking...disconnecting ...and pushing pipes on harder lol...and I THINK It DID stop the noise...but I will double check in a minute.

Realistically as it creates vacuum itââ,¬â,,¢s not going to pop out so I would probably smear some rtv round the joint with tandem pump to stop it spinning.

Defo try removing that small vac pipe and blank outlet to see if noise stops. If it is just an issue with the pipe itââ,¬â,,¢s fairly cheap to sort with some new vac hose think itââ,¬â,,¢s 3mm bore from memory
