1.9td run on pump

When I bought the thing some 4 years ago, the seller did say the auxiliary heater had been removed
and the reversing sensors disabled as the towbar was affecting them.
Neither of these things has been an issue so far and it's always warmed up quickly enough for me in the winter.
Parking sensors? we don' need no stinkin parking sensors  :D

Prior to giving it a recent pre MOT check over, I had a look for the run on pump behind the fuel filter
as I'd read some folk having problems with them and that seems to have been removed as well.

Question:

Is there any point or anything to be gained by my finding/fitting a run on pump?

TIA

If you have no boost heater then I wouldnââ,¬â,,¢t bother with the run on pump.
Does it still have the rear heater plumbed in?

It does supossedly have a secondary purpose of reducing heat spots / soak in the head after you switch off, which in turn reduces the chance of head gasket failure. That said its only the 115 where this seems to be the case, whether you take that the 115 needs this or that the 130/150 runs cooler is a matter of debate.

Thanks for the replies chaps.

The heat spot thing is what made me wonder about using one,
Last time I looked underneath there were no hoses running to the rear N/s
and I've never used the controls up behind the passenger seat to see what
happens.

When the weather bucks up I'll go and take a closer look and see what's what

Is there a diagram of hose routing available online to use as a reference?

BTW, as I was unsure I looked it up on the Ford ETIS site and it says its a 130PS

For whatever reason, the 130 and 150 pumps don't run-on when the ignition is switched off which makes me suspect they run a little cooler then the 115. If yours is a 130 then I wouldn't be that worried about getting it working although it is a good back-up should the primary pump fail.

If thatââ,¬â,,¢s the case sounds like the coolant hoses to rear have been completely bypassed at run on pump then,if that is the case to reinstate you would have to sort hoses aswell as the pump and potentially deal with the reason why it was removed in first place. If engine temp and front cabin heater are all ok leave well alone.

Right
Thanks guys, I've now learnt its a 130 and there's probably little point in fitting a run on pump
if they dont run on after shut down anyway.
It had a new coolant pump with the cam belt kit 2000 miles or so ago so I'll take me chances.

The rear cabin heater will normally suffer and run cooler even on max heat due to reduced flow, the engine's water pump doesn't cope with the normal flow through booster heater and rear cabin heater but may be sufficient when booster heater is removed.
