2.0 TDCI Intermittently Losing power

Hi all,

I've had my Galaxy for about 4 months now, and for the first 3 it was fine. We've had about 4 occurrences of a sudden loss of power when driving up an incline, the first time said Engine Malfunction but this cleared once we had stopped and restarted.
Didn't happen again for a few weeks, but then we didn't get the Engine Malfunction message but the full power returned after I had slowed down at a junction and then set off again.
I did notice that the traction control light came on for a few seconds too, but soon went out.

I've managed to get an ODBII cable and Forscan, the codes I'm getting are:

P0002-84-2C - Fuel Volume Regulator
U0401:68-08 - Invalid Data Received from ECM/PCM

Any ideas before I book it into a garage to be checked out ?

Sadly a very occurrence with Ford's common rail setup, essentially you've used up nearly all the fuel in the rail and the pump isn't able to supply it fast enough.
Assuming its been regularly serviced and the fuel filter is good then typically its caused by the injectors leaking back, you'll need to conduct an injector leak of test so see which ones are going bad.

Do the obvious and cheap things first; fuel filter (no pump in tank so you need to suck fuel up with a hand pump - there's nipple on the filter housing for that); air leaks in fuel line - higher demand pulls air in rather than more fuel from the tank.

Yours is also of the era when there were issues with fuel contamination.  Might be worth pulling a sample of fuel from the tank to examine for what appears to be water/fungal infection.
