had air in system since replacing seals on the Injector pump. after an array of  issues have managed to come back to the air in the system issue.

After connecting transparent pipes all over the place i have chased the ingress of air back to the lifter unit (mine doesn't have the lifter pump just the fuel gauge housing.

i connected a hand pump to the "V" connection and pulled fuel through and it came through approximately 60%air bubbles.
Took the unit out to check for cracks but could see nothing. there was a slider on the underside of the cover tube into the housing which had an o-ring on the outer edge but no kind of seal on the inner side  which I couldn't work out. unclipped the cover part of the unit and put the tube from my hand pump directly into the female receiver for the "V". i put the unit into a tub of fuel until it was 50% submerged and pulled the hand pump. again. this caused air to come through.
has anyone had any experience with these units at all? im unsure if the sliding grommet like piece with the o-ring is supposed to cause a vacuum when fuel is being dragged from the injector  pump.

any ideas would be appreciated.

Are you able to get a picture of the pick up housing? I canââ,¬â,,¢t quite visualise what set up you have.

By the look of that the o ring seals up against the pick up at bottom of housing,so either the o ring is pulling in air or there is a crack somewhere in that plastic tube. Does it still pull air in when you have a full tank of fuel?

I have read before about VAG pick ups causing air to be pulled in and fuel run back when stood overnight.

Hi, just came back from holiday. Had to rent a car in the end!!!!!!

back to the issue!
Have taken this thing out several times and as the cost of a new one is 80eur and i can't find a used one I'm determined to get to the bottom of the way that the sliding "grommet" is supposed to seal against air ingress (the grommet and the tube have a mm or less gap between them to allow it to slide up and down the pipe).

Im at a bit of a loss. i am going to top the fuel tank up to see if this makes any difference but wouldn't have thought that i would need to with over 1\2 a tank already.

I can't even hand pump fuel up to the engine bay.

taken the housing out and had a pipe going directly into the tank for 3 weeks now. so far so good. looking out for a second hand one. have no fuel gauge at the moment but ill just keep the tank topped up and ill be ok. never got to the bottom of why it was letting the air in or understanding the workings of the sliding o-ring
