Automatic transmission is a little slow to change when D or R are selected

Hi...I'm about to buy a 2005 Galaxy 2.3 automatic transmission and noticed that when I selected reverse it didn't engage straight away. When Drive was selected it found reverse for a second before engaging into Drive. Is this an indication of a transmission that is about to go wrong? The car dealer said that this was to do with the engine idling speed? I have a 2006 Ford Galaxy which is about to go due to being hit by a dustbin lorry, also automatic, and this engages immediately what ever gear is selected. It feels much more responsive where gear selection is concerned.

Sounds like either worn out oil or sticky solenoids, have a search in ref library there is a write up about it
