Can basic Galaxys support remote control keys?

The problem is that I cant use my key to open the door on my mk2 Galaxy anymore, looks like its broken, it hasnt got remote control because it was the basic model, but I was wondering if those models were prepared to have remote or even I can install something instead of fixing the door, wich would be less practical.

Its possible to install an aftermarket remote by wiring it to the fusebox on the appropiate wires. Something like this is what you'd need

I used similar on my mk1 to allow me to unlock without using the key in the lock.

You might find them cheaper elsewhere, I haven't looked too far into that. Ideally with the remote kit you want one with a rolling code as they are more secure than a fixed code.

Also you won't be able to program keys for remote if they will work, without fixing the drivers door lock first (as you turn the key in a specific sequence to get it to program the fob). If its supported, which i don't know but believe all mk2's originally had a remote fob, Fairly sure it was a valet key (plastic one) simple basic key and one remote, or valet key and 2 remotes depending on the spec of the vehicle.

Thanks everyone, I solved the problem by using the lock in the trunk, I had never used, didnt even realised it was there.
A cheap solution, lets see how long it takes until it brakes, like the other two locks in the car.
Typical Vw made, except engine, everything else can brake and everyone proud of having a Vw, I had a mk5 Golf and same story.

I've managed to rebuild one of the drivers door key locks - getting them apart is the hard bit without breaking them further. It seems to me that the different metals in the lock actually react and end up causing it to sieze up. If you can get it apart and extract the barrel part, then let the barrel soak a while you might get  the tumblers to move, once they move you've got the worst bit done just make sure you know which tumbler comes out of which slot (or take a while after matching different tumblers to different points until it fits together)
