Hi guys! i have a 2005 Galaxy 1.9tdi 115hp Zetec. auto
Just had an alternator workshop fault on my display then battrey light came on permanantly... car gear changed with jerking .then car died ...no battery power!!!
went to an auto electrician checked the battery only showing 6v?? stated needs a new alternator as current one not charging me battery..hokey cokey got me machanic to fit new 120 amp alternator, started up, battery (is only one month old cost Ã,£80 a Platinum heavy duty one) only showing 12.4 v...put on headlights , revved the engine abit to check if alt is now charging the battery, down to only 12v...arghhhhhhh!

my mechanic is fairly exerienced and he thinks there is something shorting inthe car which is causing battery to lose charge and alternator not fully charging battery...am at my wits end

Any help greatly appreciated guys!!!

Hello Cheeky  welcome5

Firstly look at the condition of the primary fuse box in front of the battery, if there's signs of melting and overheating of the two large cables nearest the battery this is where the fault lies.
come back when you've had a look.

Hi All,

I had this same problem and turned out to be the alternator pully and not the alternator
