Hey all,

I'm new here, we just bought a Mk 1 1.9 TDi galaxy a month ago. Anywho, yesterday driving to my parents the Radio (some not very good JVC thing that came in it, not the ford standard) just shut off while I was messing with the volume and bass setting. I thought it might be a fuse gone but I thought I checked the fuses with my multimetre and they were ok (although maybe I missed one or two). So then I thought it might be the head unit, we've been wanting to replace it so I went out and bought a new one and sure enough it doesn't turn on either.

Weirdly the wiring harness is a standard ISO connector, do they come with that or has someone hacked it on?

Anyway, I tested the red ISO wire (which I believe is battery) and that has like 12-14v over it as expected, I tested the yellow ISO wire and that has less than 1v over it, I think it was 0.05 with the engine off and 0.5v with the engine on. Is that right? I thought this should be 12v?

Also which fuse(s) is it for the head unit?

Anyone got any other ideas about what it could be?

Thanks,

Jonny

It shouldn't be ISO, ford used their own connectors for both mk1 and mk2 galaxys, the only exception being factory nav units.

Thanks, sure enough it was fuse 23, and no wonder it went. The ignition and battery wires have been connected the wrong way round to the iso connector so when I turned it up I guess it tried to draw more than the 3 amps the ignition fuse has, the battery fuse is 10. I swapped them round on the iso to Sony connector that came with the new stereo.

anywho thanks very much, thankfully I had music for the 8 hour  drive I did today.
