Engine/transmission overheating

Hi! I have a big problem with my 2011 Galaxy 2.0 tdci (163 hp).

When its over 23-24 C degrees outside the problem kicks in, especially if I drive hard or with a heavy load. I can drive for maybe 30 minutes before the motor gets really hot. First I feel the heat on my legs while driving and minutes later the gearbox (auto) starts jumping and forcing a slow down. If I dont stop I get the message:
"Limited transmission function".

If I stop and starts the car the message is gone but since the car is still hot it will soon return. If I let the car cool it will all disapear untill it gets hot again. It doesnt leave anything they can find with a commputer. If its colder I can drive for hours with no problem.

The engine-room is so hot it burns toucing any parts, but it doesnt read hot on the dashboard-thermometer.

What have I done?
- The cooling fan is working (but its not going as fast as it should when the car is so hot)
- Theres no visible leak
- Full service on engine and gearbox
- Full troubleshooting by 2 differnt mecanics
- Bought a temp. sensor for the cooling liquid (but havent had the time to change it)

So, what might this be?

When you say "full service", did this include the ~Ã,£250 for a fluid and filter change on the gear box?  Do you have a full service history - changes every 50,000km?

It seems quite common for there to be big issues with the powershift boxes if they are not serviced scrupulously.

Thanx for responding. Yeah, they went over the whole transmission and changed oil and filter. In norway its s lot more than Ã,£250 thou... Closer to Ã,£500...

I bought the car from my brother so I know that they didnt have the same problem and that all services are ok and done by Ford.

Im gjetting the coolant temperature sensor changed in a couple of days, hope that will do the trick.

Im not familiar with that analogy, but if it means not putting 2 and 2 together youre spot on!

You may find this thread useful - there are numerous other Powershift threads in that category.

I have a copy of the Gertrag manual in pdf format.  Not going to publish it here but happy to email you a copy.  Might take me a day or two to find and I'm going to be out of communication from 12/08 until 29/08.
