My Galaxy has developed yet another fault, when I first start it there is a noise from around the auxiliary belt, not a belt sqeek but more like something slipping, metal noise, all the electrics dim while it makes the noise and as soon as it goes they go bright again, having trouble to find where it's from as all seems OK so I am suspecting the one way pulley on the alternator, how can I check it? I took the belt of and everything turns freely, no free play or noise. However my AC compressor clutch is shot which I will replace, still don't think that might be the culprit.

Put a screw driver in the cooling fins to hold alternator fan and try to turn pulley backwards.

just checked it and it does turn backwards, but could it be slipping when turned while the alternator is under load in the right direction?

I donââ,¬â,,¢t think it is possible to slip if you are referring to the clutch pulley? They either work normally or seize up.
When it is running is the tensioner quite steady or is it bouncing around? My one went weak so was bouncing about causing noise.

While belt was off did you have a check of all the pulleys?

Have had a couple slipping in both directions but they do mainly seize, metal filings can be thrown out aswell.

It  seems to go back freely when I put a screwdriver in the fins but there is very slight play in it. Can't tell if the whole shaft has play or just the pulley. When turned forward it turns with the whole shaft. My ac clutch is absolutely shot the bit in the center is hanging but the actual pulley bearing seems fine. I will be replacing it with one from breakers but it was fine like that before. It could be the PAS pump too but that seems fine as well...
