Hello all. I am yet to solve the issue with the central locking lol...but I will get round to that asap....and thanks for all the advice on that.
Anyway I have another problem now ...love this car ...I recently removed ..had reconditioned ..and refitted the turbo to fix a limp mode type problem....which it cured and all was well ..until...I noticed that the car still struggles and fades under acceleration...not the same as before ..that has been solved ...but definitely not right.
I had a mate of mine who works for the RAC put his diagnostics on it quick..and he said it was suggesting Air related or something...sorry it was a while ago now and I have a shit memory ...but basically he pointed out two things...a sensor on the air filter ..MAF sensor I guess ...and another sensor on the other side of the engine lol..sorry ...which I believe is the MAP sensor ?
Does this seem correct ..and a likely cause ? I cannot get hold of him at the moment as he is away ...and we are going away soon so I would like...the Mrs would like...to get it "sorted out before we go away cos if it brakes down on the way to the airport !!"
Any advice will be very much appreciated ...Im just going to go look at this central locking problem quick ...check wires in doors again...fuse 19 ...boot wires....love this car.
Thank you
Daniel

I just wanted to edit the post but I cant find an edit button?
I was meant to ask if there is a way of testing the sensors without the kit obviously....like pull it off ..drive ..any different ..that kind of thing ?

Thank you

Ok....I have just been for a drive and disconnected the MAF sensor ...noticeably worse...then done the same with the MAP sensor...again noticeably worse :-(

So I guess I can rule that out as a cause of no power....well it has power but dies out as you accelerate...noticed it earlier at about 2500 revs...but havent really paid much attention to that until then so Im not sure if that was random or what.

I am about to go in to town to pick up a new alternator now so I will pay more attention as I drive to see if it happens at certain revs etc. ...I take it the alternator wont be having an affect on this issue ?

Anyway ...have to go now but please advise...doing my head in now

Thank you for all your help so far

Daniel

Get yourself a vcds lite lead off ebay, and scan for fault codes (should cost you less than a tenner for the lead, software is a free download).

You just need a laptop then.

Note that a sensor like the MAF can misread, but sounds like yours is doing something.

If the alternator is dead and the car is nearly out of battery power as a result, some sensors will report incorrect values etc, Since you know thats dead, fix that first (note there is a known common fault on the mk2s of the under bonnet fusebox melting due to poor crimps on the wires, this can cause charging issues and alternator problems among other things, so worth checking that while your there)

You really need vcds to scan it and check live data. Could be maf or map or even N75 not operating correctly or poor vac from the pump/dodgy vac hoses.... so many things could be at fault but without proper diagnostics you are working blind and just taking a stab in the dark

Thank you both for your replies.

I didnt even know you could get just the lead...I have a laptop :-) I will grab one off Ebay tomorrow.

But ...Tonight I changed the alternator ...the pulley had gone and its been like it for ages but over the last few days its been getting very noisy ..like embarrassingly noisy....

So anyway I changed it for a EuroCarParts Ã,£75 one tonight ...removed and cleaned the MAF sensor and MAP sensor...gave the air filter a good beating lol ..I forgot to get one when I picked up the Alternator but I will get one tomorrow at Halfords ...
even washed and dried the little paper filter up by the Air Filter ??? still looked very dirty so I will grab one of those on Monday

....probably shouldnt have washed it but I just figured its got to be like the air filter on my saw ..and I wash that

Anyway ...after all that I took the car out and its running like a dream ...think it will benefit even more from a new air filter tomorrow but I am happy and more importantly so Is the Mrs.

I couldnt have got anywhere without the help and advice from people on the forum...like yourselves...and I really do thank you all very much for time.

I still havent got to the bottom of the central locking issue yet ...I will go around the doors again tomorrow ..check again the wiring and no doubt come back begging for help once more...

Thank you very much

Daniel

Also want to take this time to thank Chrispb who has been a great help in the past with my turbo issues...tried to PM him but couldnt so...thank you Chrispb

Thanks for the thanks glad to help.
That lead should be OK for yours, if you have any problems installing the lead/software there is a how to in the reference library.

Once you have VCDS up and running as you have run the car with various sensors disconnected you should have errors stored, make a note of these then clear any codes you have stored then go for a drive and rescan.

You wont be able to use the auto scan function unless you pay to register your copy, you don't need to do that just scan each module EG. Engine, Aux heat etc.

With VCDS lite (full version) need a code clearing or want to scan for faults in the north kent area, PM me. All for a pint of Strongbow.

To confirm - thats the same as the cheap lead I first got, and does work fine with the VCDS lite version as described above. For what you need lite should be fine as well.

Ok I will order one then...thanks
A new problem has appeared lol...the windscreen wipers wouldnt work today ...proper died half way through...then tried and stopped again...then worked ok ..then did it again...and now they are working ok but the drivers side wiper isnt completely clearing my side...stops a good 3 inches short of its swipe towards the pillar ...any ideas what the problem might be please ?

Thank you

Also...My wife spilled her drink on the stereo the other day...I believe its the 5000 series.

I took it completely apart last night as the buttons were sticky and button number 1 wasn't working at all....only became a problem last night after I disconnected the battery to do the alternator....now it requires the code to work again....but the circuit board was damaged for button one and now I can't input the first number of the code....Annoying !!

Can I solve this somehow ...can I order a replacement board for that stereo ? how would that work with the code? I guess it would be a new board and a new code ? and is that a main dealer job ?

Thank you for all you help

Daniel

Cheapest option is get a replacement off eBay,bound to be loads on there as that model is fitted to several cords of the era.

Have a look in reference library about wiper linkage repair, sounds like the common seized spindles issue to me
