Farewell to the old gal

After a few years of ownership the old gal is heading off to new owners later today,she is off to end her life in Europe.

Got to say despite a few issues it has been a reliable car and never let me down,mainly due to the good people on here sharing info and fixes for the common issues that affect these cars.

Make sure u take some nice photos for the memories :)

No not having another gal had a few cars since that went a year ago, 159,Lexus IS now running a Giulietta and a 535d m sport tourer.

The 159 was the Italian styling.
Lexus for the luxury feel.
Giulietta again for the Italian styling and the 1.4MA is a punchy little unit at 170bhp but still retains decent economy.
The 5 series that twin turbo 275bhp engine is something else huge amounts of torque,and still half decent on fuel for a big motor returns around 38mpg on a run

Which car was your favourite overall. Also have you ever had a Mitsubishi, Iââ,¬â,,¢ve always wondered about them

Probably the beemer because it is practical with all the space but comfortably and powerful with it.
Had an evo several years ago i wasnââ,¬â,,¢t overly impressed with it,the build quality was nothing special for the price tag. I then went on to a Subaru similar kind of build quality and finish inside but didnââ,¬â,,¢t have the evo price tag.

BMWs always look really comfy and safe although not too sure about the saloon models because need a bigger boot. Are the big BMWs like X5 reliable etc?

I've been toying with selling mine for about 5 years now but sadly its looking more and more likely I will have to as its just not being used anymore :(

I was going to answer you and say in the experience I have had then yes they are reliable,but on Wednesday night my rear diff exploded locking rear wheels up and causing car to slide sideways down road. 2 hours waiting on recovery then I had suitcase jenga trying to get bags in mrs Giulietta for trip to airport. The bmw is not in my good books at present.

Itââ,¬â,,¢s for the best mark if itââ,¬â,,¢s just sitting there doing nothing,canââ,¬â,,¢t imagine you will have much trouble selling yours with the condition itââ,¬â,,¢s in.

Iââ,¬â,,¢m just glad to hear youââ,¬â,,¢re safe! It sounds like that could have been very scary!

If it had gone the following day when doing 70 on M5 with kids in back it doesnââ,¬â,,¢t bare thinking about what could have happened.

It probably would have shattered the difference at that speed? They are supposed to be designed to shear to prevent just such an event!

Finally had chance to look at diff now back from holiday,quite a strange failure planet shaft had partially sheared but mostly remained in place. The housing had elongated. Looks like piece of shaft been floating about inside for a while before finally moving and locking the gears up.
Force of lock up sheared mountings off subframe.

Spectacular.  Pity you'll never (likely) find out the cause of the original failure.

Having looked closer it seems pinion Pre loads badly set up causing tight operation I suspect the constant torque needed to drag it round caused the elongation of shaft location holes.

Like you say I will never know the reason for failure itââ,¬â,,¢s just my suspicion.
Job and a half putting it right though, new diff,subframe,prop CV joint fair old chunk of work stripping it down.
