Screenwash not working front or rear

Hi This is my first post. I would like to thank the many contributors about the common door gaiter issue which I have sorted. I have however a problem with the washer pump. There is no audible relay click from the back of the fuse box. and the wipers are fine, I believe they share the same fuse. So I am thinking fault from the stalk switch/wiring or faulty relay. I have looked for a previous post to avoid asking people to repeat themselves but have not found the answer. Something which may be relevant is that the cruise system is not switching on and may be a stalk switch fault also.
Mk2 Galaxy Ghia 1.9tdi 03.
I would be grateful for any suggestions before I start barking up the wrong tree!
Cheers

I'd have a look at the connectors on the stalk assembly as a first step if you haven't already. Given you have 2 faults on separate systems and thats the only common point (not sure on the mk2 if its the same connector for both, but easily checked once you have the covers off). I think others have found there are two fuses for the controls, 20 and 24 are shown by the Haynes manual in the breakdown, the wiring digaram there shows they are the front and rear wiper motors. f27 is also shown but this appears to be the stalk supply, and you'd get no wipers if that was blown.

The wiring colours leaving the switch are shown as Bn/Ye for positive, and Gn/Ye as negative (Bn=Brown,Ye=Yellow Gn=Green), these intersect with the wiper circuit as well. When you pull the control to wash, do the wipers start up on the appropriate screens? If they don't then I'd try a jumper wire between those coloured wires and see what happens (you can use an inline fuse holder for this task if you want to play it safe doing so with a 5a fuse fitted.

If that works it suggests the stalk is shot. if not and the wipers work I'd suspect the pump is broken (its possible if the reservoir is contaminated for them to get jammed up with slime) or the wiring is broken at some point between the two. If the wipers work when triggered by the wash pull then I'd doubt its the stalk itself (though may be that its not plugged in properly of course or damage to the connector pins)

Thanks for the reply brianh I guess I will have to take the steering wheel and cowl off the column and follow the trail. The wipers work when you pull/push the stalk. If the wipers share the same contacts as the wiper to trigger the relays could be dead washer pump relay. But will check the obvious first and see if  power at the pump. Just expected a click from the relay.

There isn't a relay in that circuit. But the wiring diagram shows the feed exits the switch then goes to the motor, with a splice somewhere to the wiper circuit.

Motor is 60 on the attached, you should be able to trace the rest, 33 is the stalk so as you should be able to see its going directly from one to the other. Given it doesn't work on either direction and is the same motor just run the opposite way for rear/front it does suggest its the motor at fault, or the wiring to it after the splices. Can't remember offhand if you can get to the motor to remove it without first removing the bolts that hold the bottle in place.

Well that explains why there is no click!. Will go for the pump motor I understand it is accessible from the nearside wheel arch liner. Thanks for the help I will let you know the outcome.
Cheers

I've had issues with a sort of gel forming on the inlet pipe in the washer tank of two cars.  If someone has continued to try to get the pump to pump, it may be that they have terminated the motor.  Can you hear the motor running when you use the control?

I've had what looks like algae forming in the bottle on some cars. I've generally found using screenwash (generously) in the bottle stops that happening. Also stops it freezing and splitting the pump open. I've known it to be enough for it to jam the pump totally, but you may get away with removing anything there and trying it again to see if it works.

Them crappy filters/seals block easy aswell. I normally flush bottle out and chop the filter part off.
