Central locking and drive shaft ... Not liking my first Galaxy

Well after replacing the wiring loom in the drivers door and stripping out and checking all remaining looms my central locking has stopped working again with exactly the same faults... will not lock or arm on remote and if locked with key immediately unlocks... and on way to a repair centre today the offside drive shaft flange unbolted itself and disintigrated leaving debris up the road behind me...

Without inspection I presume that the driveshaft bolts to a flange on the gearbox? Anyone else had one fail catastrophically like this?

the offside one runs through a couple of joints - one is a bearing where it runs past the back of the engine with a slotted joint (this is reported to be too weak on some of the diesel models and tears the teeth out), the other is much closer to the gearbox, looks like this > https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-GALAXY-MK2-INNER-CV-JOINT-DRIVESHAFT-BRAND-NEW-2000-06/130785950674

I've not had a failure on it, though its possible you've had something done on it prior to you getting the car of course.

On the locking issue, it sounds like you have a failed door lock unit to me. Most likely the position switch that tells the car if its locked or not isn't working properly

Which lock is this position swtich in please?

I'd suspect one of the front ones is your problem, as from what i'd found they are monitored, while the back ones are not to the same degree (if one of them fails to move it doesn't trigger the locking/unlocking nonsense). And the boot can have some bearing on it as well (and can cause all manner of weird problems for people).

The position switch is only in the front locks as far as im aware - its what detects you either locking via the key, or opening via the key. I don't know for sure if its the bit shown as an insert on these locks, but it may be that (as far as i know its only used for the global locking). unplugging each one of them should identify the problem one, If its the passenger door one you might be able to get away with it being left unplugged (just make sure before you reassemble the door that you tie the loose connector out of the path of the window glass so it doesn't get caught later).

Switch i mean is the one labelled as 11 in the attached screenshot.

Thank Brian... I'll investigate this when I get the car back from the garage with new driveshaft fitted... Waiting on Flange bolts from Ford as they were not supplied with new unit... go figure the cheapskates...

From the service record with the car this also happened 4 years ago!

I only have a door lock on the drivers door so I presume this switch is only on the drivers side...

Don't know as haven't had one apart that only has the drivers side, Wouldn't like to guarantee it either way you will probably have to look for yourself if the drivers side does not work (it may trigger off something else in the lock anyway, as said before those switches may be for the global window or possibly alarm functions I don't know for sure).

I think you will find the driveshafts are a known issue on certain diesel models (not all of them), There was (might still be) an improved shaft if its the teeth bit torn out available from Motomax. Other end I've not had problems with personally though. Bear in mind they are cars that would have been doing lots of round town school runs etc originally not motorway running so steering will take quite a hit in most cases anyway.
