The car (Galaxy mk2 2006 1.9tdi auto) was performing normally. Stood overnight when it was the heavy snowfall. Wouldn't start the next morning. No glow plug light on tacho display. All fuses o.k, except fuse 4 (engine management, engine immobilisation), which keeps blowing when ignition is switched on. OBD2 showed fault code P0864 (which relates to traction control module) Relay 109 o.k. Decided to disconnect Jatco gearbox control module to see if fuse 4 would still blow, but I'm unsure how to actually disconnect the Jatco. Can anyone help please?

Hi harry and welcome! The control module is mounted in the engine bay, on the right side (when looking in) to the right of the battery. Its relatively easy to get to and then the connector just slides and pulls off.

Hi, Many thanks for your reply. How do you slide it, do you pull it up or push it down? Mine just doesn't want to move and I'm wary of using excessive force. [attachimg=1]

I forgot how limited the space is when you still have the battery tray in situ so its not quite as easy as I remember!

If you look at this image, the tab circled needs to be slid / pushed away from the connector which allows it to pull off. It does need reasonable force to move normally as years of road silt clog up its sliders but shouldn't need excessive force.

I want to do the same gear. I want to but I do not dare to put it in my car.

Hi, Many thanks. I managed to get it uncoupled, but fuse4 still blows with Jatco uncoupled, so the fault presumably lies elsewhere. Don't quite know where to go from here, any ideas are welcome!

Does it still blow with relay 109 out? Also try disconnecting traction ecu aswell. Have you got a meter to start checking for wires down to earth?

As it was ok prior to heavy snowfall that suggests to me water has got in somewhere causing it.

Hi, Sorry for the delay. Yes it still blows with relay 109 out. Haven't been able to try disconnecting engine ecu yet. The white wire at the main fuse box, layer one connector shows a short to earth. I've been trying to locate A103 the passive anti theft module which the white wire connects directly to (part no. 7m3953257, I think.) Any ideas where it is located?

Good luck with that!!! Its a massive, MASSIVE undertaking to get to that unit as for obvious reasons, they don't want you fiddling with it.

Its mounted inside a metal cage and then bolted to the underside of the main dashboard crash iron using security torx. The only official way to access it is by removal of the entire dashboard which is pretty much the only way, if you have very slim arms then you can just about get to it by removing the instrument cluster but even then its not exactly 'access' but more a small void that you can just about get a long shank screwdriver down with 90 degree bit end.

Put this module at the absolute back of the list and exhaust all other avenues before you considering it as the cause of the fault!!

As Mark said that is a big job,not had that module out but I have removed dash from mine when I first had it... not for the faint hearted thatââ,¬â,,¢s for sure.

Try removing multiplug from engine ECU as fuse 4 feeds this initially if that stops it blowing I would be looking at engine/gearbox wiring as this is exposed to the elements.
Relay 109 is fed from fuse 14 (25 amp)

Hi, Many thanks for your previous comments. Can anyone suggest where I can get a full wiring diagram for a Galaxy 1.9tdi auto 2005? Regards Harry H

Most DIYer's that have been dealing with these vehicles will have acquired a copy of the Ford TIS disc, covers most Ford vehicles up to 2004.
Although the Haynes manual covers the important stuff it's by no means a full wiring diagram.

I take it you still not found the problem with yours?

Hi, Managed to uncouple engine ECU. Fuse 4 does NOT BLOW. Visual examination of ECU, looked o.k. internally. Reconnected engine ECU and uncoupled MAF sensor and MAP sensor. Fuse 4 does not blow.
Recoupled MAP sensor, fuse 4 does not blow.
Recoupled MAF sensor, fuse 4 blows.
Uncoupled MAF sensor, glow plug LED comes on and engine starts immediately, therefore short circuit in MAF sensor.
Fitted new MAF sensor, problem solved.
Many thanks to everyone for all their helpful advice. HarryH

Nice one glad you got it all sorted.
Never heard of a maf causing fuse blow before though.

Yeah would have expected wiring to the MAF or the MAP as they are exposed to the elements.  [GJ]
