Hi There

I have a 2006 ford Galaxy 1.9 tdi.  When I purchased the vehicle it had an after market stereo in it.  This stereo played cd's fine but did not receive any radio signals, after checking the back of the stereo and making sure the aerial was connected correctly I decided to buy a second hand 6000cd (the original head unit used in this model)  After fitting this unit the same was happening, playing cd's but no radio.  I then decided to purchase a amplified windscreen aerial but after a mock connection with this amplified aerial still no radio with both the aftermarket unit and the 6000cd.  could there be anything wrong with the stereo harness that would result in not receiving radio signals even after fitting a completely separate amplified aerial?  Please help as my CD collection is driving me mad.  Thanks in advance.

Not sure about the 6000 mine has the nav system but that needs 12v down the coax to power the amplifier above the headlining. You can get an in-line adaptor that does this for you.

Have you checked the little press stud type connection on the rear quarter glass make sure it has not come off?

Yes got an inline amplifier before the windscreen aerial still no joy.  As I am completely overriding the original aerial by fitting the windscreen one I taught I would get stations but no luck.  I am thinking it must be something in the harness for both radios to be acting the same with the new aerial.

I canââ,¬â,,¢t see it is in harness if you have a separate aerial that still has issues, the only other wires in harness you are using is power and speakers and they must be ok as cd works. I would hazard a guess and say the windscreen aerial not the best and the quarter light one is faulty.

you would imagine even if it is not the best that you should get some reception surely?

Is signal being interfered with by heated screen elements, have you tried plugging it in and holding outside the car door to Test?

That is very odd,I donââ,¬â,,¢t know what else to suggest it seems strange 2 different head units and 2 different aerials donââ,¬â,,¢t work. There is nothing in the loom that could cause it in my opinion as you have taken that out the equation with your separate screen aerial.

Very crude test but what about a length of wire in the aerial connection run out of the car to see if it picks anything up even if just a weak signal? I know with mine I can be an aerial myself just by putting finger on aerial connection on head unit, that would prove wiring is ok and it has to be an issue with your screen one and quarter one.

Have you anything plugged into either of your 12v/lighter sockets?
I have a car USB adapter (that I rarely use) that blocks all signals.

Thatââ,¬â,,¢s a good shout forgot all about that I had a cheap Chinese one that messed my signal up couple years ago.

I keep forgetting it does it after I forget itââ,¬â,,¢s plugged in; then I do exactly the same!
Window aerial wiring, radio out, checking connections...

Oh, letââ,¬â,,¢s unplug that... perfect.

Just removed my usb adapters still no reception

If it were me I would defo take both your aerials out the equation and use a length of wire in aerial socket and see if that gets any sort of reception if it does then concentrate efforts on resolving the issue with standard aerial.  Continuity check core and screen from head unit back to the rear of car, check push on connection. Drop roof lining slightly and see what amp you have got if it is a PCB looking set up with coax going in and no power feed then it needs a 12v feed down coax from radio. One of these adaptors can give you this.

One in pic is fakra so you would need ISO or DIN depending what is fitted in yours.

The aerial cable is just bog standard coax so there isn't much to go wrong there! If its been cut then possibly but even then you should still have some signal.

A lof of Chinese LED's have zero screening and generate massive EMF interference. Do you have any of the car lights converted to LED's?

no LED's bought another windscreen aerial from Halfords today still no signal

Are you plugging the aerial into the radio directly? What type of connector is it on both radios and is it via an adaptor?

plugging aerial into an 12v aerial adaptor then plugging adaptor into stereo both adaptor and aerial have 12v feed so am connecting them to the thick red wire on the stereo harness
