Couple of Questions

We got a 07 galaxy 2.0 TDCI Zetec a few weeks ago from a local garage. They have turned out to not be the best place to buy after checking for reviews and comments stating they where good, hence I am trying not go near them unless anything major goes wrong.

The tyres looked fine when we did the test drive and check over, but on returning home after collecting the Galaxy, after them doing service and MOT. 2 of the tyres where totally bald on the inside. The car shouldn't have passed MOT for it ATS guys said(but they could have been swapped afterwards). So new tyres went on.

The car has been fine but over last couple of mornings it has developed a squealing sound(like a fan belt squeal) on start up. after it has warmed up this goes away. Could this be an Aux belt on its way out? Drives fine still just the slight squealing that needs solving.

Secondly does anybody know what the socket kind of clips in the boot area for? they are situated on the bottom inner trim of the rear quarter windows. look like a square box with metal clips in the bottom.

thanks for any help with these.

Phill

The alternator is fitted with a free-wheeling clutch type pulley which can give odd squealing noises when they seize, the auxiliary drive belt is tensioned by a non adjustable spring loaded tensioner so check out these items and of course the condition of the belt.

The sockets in the boot area sound like where the load space cover slots in, then there are smaller slots where the seat belt buckle clips in when rear seats are not in use.

If that doesn't answer your question post a picture of what your referring to

thx for reply gregers.

I know what your saying, and usually I would, but being our only car and one of the kids being disabled I really cant afford to be without it for 3 weeks while they botch job it.

thnx chrisb aswell, sorry I totally bypassed your reply somehow yesterday :(

I've contacted dealer, they are saying it might be a dry belt from being stood and to keep on with it over weekend. if it doesn't sort out they'll book it in for new belt?

As for those clips in back I am on about i'll prob have to get a picture.  cant figure how the parcel shelf would connect to them.

thnx
phill

Cars been in and had new Aux belt today. Everything was fine, went shopping still fine.

Now just been to take daughter to rainbows and information light comes on.

Trip computer isn't working in centre of dash, it just has a red line running across the bottom of it. Anybody got any ideas what has gone wrong now?

Thanks
Phill

Now acquired full refund.

Anyone know of a mechanically sound mk3. Damn the car was nice was all the faults that spoilt it.

P0670 Glow plug module
P0380 Glow plug heater
U? (cant read it) Coolant temp fail
U0129 Lost comms with brake control module
C41568 Abs fault
C42268 body module fault.

The garage did replace Aux belt and sent cluster away for repair. they where notified of above faults as well as diesel/oil around glow plugs but failed to repair.

Above faults where present when RAC checked car before following us into garage for refund, as the engine ABS and parking light came on as we where travelling to dealer.

Garage stated for faults "If car has no fault codes, there's something wrong with the car" and the "oil/diesel around the glow plugs was due to topping the oil up". To think they had the cheek to have a go at me for taking advice from Ford and other mechanic as well as on here, all because they had been trading for 30 yrs.

They also claimed(before giving refund)"the car I traded had severe steering problems "didn't like it when I stated they should of rejected it as P/X then" All it had was an advisory for track rod ends when I handed the MOT for my car. I also stated "that's why the glass's hand book does trade prices. So you have more to do repairs". They didn't like me knowing a few things.

Now I just have to find a new Galaxy. hopefully this time it will be fit for purpose.

Phill

think you may of had a lucky escape there then m8ty

Very lucky, and lots of people don't get it as easy, when they should.

I've got 9k to spend, would it be worth looking at an 06 Galaxy mk2? I really do not know much about them. I just need a big car for family and the luxury space in the mk3 was ace. I've had 2 Zafira's  and Touran but they didn't equal the comfort in the mk3 Galaxy.

There is a couple of the S-max on 1.8 tdci in this area, but they are hitting 80k, one has had new clutch and flywheel on 07 reg and been a business car. they seem cramped towards the Galaxy though.

Just don't know what to do next. Everything else seems a downgrade compared to galaxy, even my dads s-max seems cramped compared to it.

well the smax is a little bit smaller then the galaxy, that i will agree with you.but i now think its better then the mk2(in my eyes)
mk2 lovely car i had 1 and really the only down side is lugging the seats out and storage etc,mk3 chrispy will be able to give you a honest opinion on these.

but its like anything,if you get the best you can afford with all the bells and whistles then you wont be disappointed.

oh i bought my 08 with 100k on the clock, dont be put off with high mileage examples, especially if they have history with it.mine runs better then the wifes zetec smax and hers has got 20k on the clock lol.

Totally sick of looking at cars now GRRR.

Looked at the S-max close by again. 80k on clock, fair few scratches in boot area and massive gouges out of top of bumper. I could have the gouges sorted a neighbour who does bodywork but will cost a few hundred. had new flywheel and clutch though. so I deal could be made. For the right price of course.

Don't seem to be many galaxy models around up my area at min. One at Perrys a 1.8 tdci but same advisories for last 4 yrs on MOT. Could indicate not really been looked after, plus it's 50 miles away. Ã,£7994

Another is quite close. Yet again same advisory for a few MOTS, this time exhaust heat shield adrift. Is that a big thing? had to have MOT redone after having a new back box fitted to pass MOT 5 days later. Would surely make them do it before I took it on. Ã,£8500

Been looking at other 7 seaters, but just nothing I fancy. Grand voyager no thank you. Kia Sedona, no thanks. Hope some is gonna trade a decnt one tomorrow for the new reg.

Phill

The mk2 is a generation behind the mk3 (thats not supposed to sound as stupid as it reads!) which means if you are used to the mk3 there is no way a mk2 will satisfy!

Depends which heat shields adrift and how damaged it is, they are easy to refix if not damaged but replacement can be costly if the mountings are ripped.

I wouldn't read much into a new clutch/flywheel, they can fail at any time new or old, unfortunatly dmfs on modern diesels are a weekness.

One of the biggest problems with family cars like the Galaxy is that they get used and abused, it's why such a big cost void forms between the rough and the smooth as ropey ones are in abundence and people hang on to the decent ones!
