Door removal

Hi all.
I've had a good look through the site and I can't find any details on door removal.
I need to change both passenger doors on my Sharan due to being damaged. I can see for myself that the doors aren't un-boltable in any way so they must be detached via the door pins.
Is there a certain technique or do I need special tools for the pin removal.
I'm hoping someone can give me some advice
Thanks in advance
James

So you haven't even got to hit a pin out. That doesn't look too hard! Cheers joka!

I've taken a fair few off now and that procedure is essentially it.

Some things that make it easier:

Once you've undone the bolt/nut on the strap, slowly close the door. The latch will get pushed into the door and then won't pull back out (since the bolts out) which makes it much easier to remove the door.

The doors are heavy when complete so a second pair of hands is almost essential when fitting the new door.

On the new door, if the strap is recessed you'll really struggle to pull it back out manually. Close the door as much as possible and use a big cable tie to lock the strap to the body. You can then open it slowly which will pull it back out and make it MUCH easier to bolt back into place.

Thanks Mirez, I need to actually change the door pins on the drivers door of the Sharan too as the the door has dropped. How do I go about this job and does anyone know where I can purchase new pins?
Thanks

When I looked into this VW told me the pins aren't available separately and you have replace the hinge which is welded to the door :( had that confirmed by my SEAT guy as well but I still think its possible if you can find a door pin!

Ah that's not great news. I can see me fabricating some new pins on the lathe if I can't buy any!
