While I have DPF off the car any recommendations for cleaning it out?

The only way I've seen involves blasting it out with a pressure washer... not sure I'd want to do that if its working though!

I've often wondered though why, since they clog with ash, you couldn't block the usual 'exit' and attach a hoover to the inlet. I'm guessing its more compacted then a regular vac would handle but would be interesting to see.

Someone suggested filling with petrol then setting alight to burn the soot off and then pressure wash it. Kind of simulates regeneration I suppose. Also leaving in a bucket of full fat coke overnight? Sceptical about these methods to be honest.
Reason I want to clean is car was mainly used for town use before I had it and while itââ,¬â,,¢s off due to head work thought I would start with clean slate so to speak.

cant you blow it out with an air line?

I thought that but apparantly the contents are very dangerous if airborne unless it has been turned to ash by regen so face masks etc are recommended when cleaning them out.

Use a proper cleaner, anything else may damage it and they can be expensive come MOT time.

I have cleaned out a fair few Peugeot DPFs with a pressure washer although the CAT could be separated from the actual filter itself. Not sure on the Galaxy set up though but as long as they are separate then you will not have an issue.
This is a good example of what I have dealt with in the past -

If yours is any way similar then no problem. It is a very messy job though so be warned!

Itââ,¬â,,¢s on an Alfa 159 that I will be doing, got full exhaust coming so will be splitting it all off anyway so might give it a good blast out with jet wash. The cat is not part of DPF on that so one Less job to do.

Just make sure you wear your old clothes! Those black stains are an aÃ,£Ã,£e to get out! just ask my mrs!  :)

Lol will do.
Is it any worse than egr and manifold gunk? I put the manifold and swirl flap housing assembly in the dishwasher on hot wash came out spotless, mrs was not in that day so thought best not to tell her what had been in it😂

Pressure washer wonââ,¬â,,¢t do anything except rips stuff to shreds and give u lumpy bits, nor will old wives tales like soaking it in Coca Cola.

Iââ,¬â,,¢d take it to a proper shop where they can put it on a machine and regenerate it.

Setting it on fire with petrol is the worst car idea Iââ,¬â,,¢ve ever heard, have u seen how much soot comes off petrol when u burn it in a metal pan?

Or maybe just drill out the inside and get the car remapped while chanting ââ,¬Å"DPF problems be gone!ââ,¬Â He he only joking donââ,¬â,,¢t do that it would fail the MOt and be illegal to drive
I drive a Seat Alhambra 1.9Tdi which has 115bhp and an automatic gearbox.

I am happy to help you with all your questions. I am not a qualified mechanic but seem to be better at fixing my car than even the most experienced garages.

I have lots of friends here and very much enjoy talking with you all. Always remember, a motor car is a serious tool and should be treated with respect. Put your safety first, always.
