I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330753371108

It works OK, but with a few errors. I have no idea whether this par for the course.

what about software ive been offered dealer software for Ã,£54.99 plus a lead at Ã,£8.00

You can download the free (limited functionality) VCDS software from Ross Tech if you just buy the cable. It is enough for checking and clearing fault codes plus reading off lots of values (eg the coolant temps and switching states for the aux heater).

If I spend any more money it will be around Ã,£200 for the genuine Ross Tech cable and full VCDS software.
