i have a 03 sharan with manual mirrors . i am looking to put on some electric auto folding mirrors . can anyone shed some light on where to start and what i would need to complete the job . am ok with electrics so wiring shouldnt be to much of a problem . thanks

You may find this unfeasible.  With other model/makes, you need to have the right Body Control Module (BCM) and existing wiring before you can fit them, _plus_ it needs to be enabled by factory-level software once fitted.

Sometimes, some of the parts (wiring and suitable BCM) are present because it's easier to install one set of kit across a range of models.  If so, the major obstacle is overcome for you.  Really low-spec machines may not have the parts and it can be much more trouble than it's worth to try to fit them afterwards.

My suggestion is that you first need to ascertain the differences between what you have and what you want.  Then see if it is even remotely worthwhile obtaining and fitting the missing parts.  The wiring is probably what is already there, as it's easier to make one harness and tuck unused parts out of the way than make a harness for every model variation.

thanks for the advise . i think the first job is going to have to be a strip down of the door and see what wiring i already have . sounds like its probably going to be easier just to fit a set of normal electric mirrors rather than the folding ones . many thanks
