updating headlights

I have found the headlights on my new galaxy (2017) poor compared to my 2011 model and would like to know the best way to upgrade them.

Unless going to go down swapping for xenon you can change bulbs out for something better.

Have used halfrauds ultra brilliance I think they are called or osram night breakers, in my x type the Halfords are a massive improvement as are the osram in the old gal.

As you got a 2017 car I am going to assume the lamps are adjusted correctly?

Are they just not bright enough or do they not shine far enough, i.e. they have a rubbish beam pattern? If it's the latter, then try adjusting them up a fraction until you have them at a suitable height so as to shine farther, yet not so high as to blind oncoming traffic.

My last 3 Skoda's had terrible lights, or rather they were great once they were adjusted up to a better level. Garage adjusted two of the three and said they were at their max legal height....but I disagreed and brought them up just a tad more. Had them checked at another garage and they they were said still legal, so I marked my garage door with the beam pattern and now match every car I buy to that level.

I can see as far as I think I need too and not once in 7 years of driving have I been flashed for blinding oncoming traffic. Until I experienced xenon's, I always changed my bulbs for better ones. They make a difference, but have nowhere near the impact a correctly adjusted set of headlights have!

All you'll need is a long Allen key, some insulation tape or a marker and a flat road with a flat wall with which to shine your headlights on. Park about 25m away and see where your lights strike the wall. Mark it on the wall with the tape and or marker, then adjust the lights up Ã,½ a turn at a time taking note of how many turns you make.

Do this one side at a time starting on the right front HL. Match both to the same level and go for a drive on an unlit road to see if they are any better than before. If you are happy with them, job done.

I would always advise a visit to a garage with a set of beam checkers afterwards just to be sure you aren't over the limit. A local independent shouldn't charge you more than Ã,£5-15 for checking.

At this time of year, you need good headlights. Hope you get them sorted.
