Tow Bar wiring

I'm installing a towbar and electrics on my Galaxy Mk3 . All OK except for stop lamp supply to the tow socket. I've picked up the cable to the L/H stop light and connected to the tow socket but as soon as I plug in the L/H lamp trips out and there is no supply to the socket.
Any Ideas please?

By trip out do you mean fuse blows when pressing brake?

If so have you anything connected to tow socket at time?

If it's when something connected there is short on trailer/van if when nothing connected problem with wiring to socket so best check no pinched/damaged cables either in socket or where goes through body down to tow bar. It's just a case of re-tracing your steps.

thanks -i'll retrace my steps. the fuse hasn't blown though. the stop light on the car extinguishes but re-sets when ignition is turned on /off again if the tow socket is disconnected

You're overloading the BCM and it's shutting down the circuit. You MUST MUST MUST relay ALL the feeds, modern cars can't be tapped like older ones and IMO you've been lucky as I know a fair few installers who have blown the controllers!
